Mamdani recently endorsed Darializa Avila Chevalier, a left-wing New York organizer running against veteran incumbent Democratic New York Rep. Adriano Espaillat. The mayor has previously made several congressional endorsements, backing former city comptroller Brad Lander’s bid to oust Rep. Dan Goldman, as well as two others. But with his latest endorsement, he took a massive risk — while also stabbing Espaillat, who in 2025 urged Democrats to support Mamdani’s campaign, right in the back. What’s worse, New Yorkers are getting a better picture of Avila Chevalier, whose past social media footprint is now coming to light.
