Suspect Allegedly Strikes ICE Agent With Car While Fleeing Arrest

A suspect allegedly hit an ICE officer with a car while fleeing Monday from apprehension in Manahawkin, New Jersey.

“I.C.E. was attempting to apprehend a suspect when the suspect fled from the scene in a vehicle, striking the I.C.E. Agent,” the Stafford Township Police Department (STPD) said in a statement Monday morning. “The agent discharged his firearm at the vehicle, reportedly striking it.”

The suspect then fled the area and remains at large, police said. The agent reportedly sustained unknown injuries and the agent’s condition has not been made public.  “There is no reason to believe there is any concern for the public’s safety,” the STPD said

The STPD stated that they are complying with then-New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal’s Immigrant Trust Directive. The directive “limits the types of voluntary assistance that New Jersey’s 36,000 law enforcement officers may provide to federal immigration authorities,” according to the attorney general’s website. “The ongoing investigation is not being conducted by Stafford Township Police. Our role at this point is to manage traffic and secure the crime scene,” the STPD said in their statement.

The STPD is asking residents to avoid the area for the next several hours as it is an active investigation.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security did not immediately to the Daily Caller’s requests for comment.
