Democrats Neutered By Trump-Hating Base Can’t Even Bring Themselves To Praise World Cup Success

Democrats are so whipped by their Trump-hating base that they cannot even offer a modicum of praise for the success of this summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament.

In an article headlined, “Democrats grapple uncomfortably with World Cup success,” Politico noted Thursday that prominent Democrats, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, have yet to “articulate anything that sounds like praise” for the U.S. and local authorities who have made the World Cup a success so far. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill have also attended games but have been reticent about showing any enthusiasm. (RELATED: Englishman Visits America For World Cup, Meets Trump: ‘I Now Understand The American Dream’)

And that’s a shame, of course, because the World Cup really has nothing to do with whether you support the host country’s government or not.

However, one Democrat had the common sense to realize that the vast majority of American sports fans are not scrutinizing the World Cup as some kind of political event.

“I will do everything I can to get the World Cup back here as soon as possible. It’s been a remarkable success,” Democratic Pennsylvania Rep. Brendan Boyle said Tuesday. “I will also do everything I can to get the Tartan Army based in Philly. Their fans have won over America. (Though selfishly I also hope Ireland finally makes it too).”

He also told Politico that the World Cup is a “great moment” that is “devoid of politics” and that “it would be best to keep politics out of it.”

“I’m excited about the U.S. hosting the World Cup, how well that it has gone, how receptive these foreign fan bases have been to finding out more about the United States and interacting with ordinary Americans,” Boyle continued.

He added, “Let me be clear, my comments are irrespective of the Trump administration. Frankly, his immigration policies for the last year and a half did scare some people off from coming to the United States. The credit goes to the local host committees.”

It’s not only hyper-partisan Democrats who are acting like wet blankets. The New York Times has been on a roll, pumping out miserable article after miserable article. One story expressed shock that European tourists were mesmerized by Bass Pro Shops and other awesome Americana. Another piece is a giant fact-check on all the viral social media videos of European and global tourists enjoying American cuisine.

The tourists and actual fans attending the games? Well, they’re clearly loving it.
