Dolly Parton Announces Upcoming Broadway Show, ‘Dolly: A True Original Musical’

Dolly Parton is taking Broadway. The big-stage production of “DOLLY: A True Original Musical” will open this winter and pre-sale tickets will be available starting July 8.

The country music superstar revealed the big news on her personal social media channels July 7, and promised fans a very personal musical experience.

“Now this isn’t about a story, about sparkle and shine on the outside,” she said.

“It’s about where I really come from, what I’ve lived, what I’ve lost, what I’ve loved, and how I’ve found my way, and told it in my own words.”

“And through the music that’s been part of me every step of the journey,” Parton said.

She teased the upcoming musical by telling fans it features some of her “big hits” and includes “a lot of brand new songs” that were written “just for the show.”

“This is really a dream come true,” Parton said. “And I can’t wait to share it with all of you.”

Parton’s representatives told the Daily Caller the very special Broadway musical will be directed by Tony Award-winner Bartlett Sher and co-written by Emmy Award-winner Maria S. Schlatter.

Parton’s personal connection with this exciting new project included a very meaningful opening date. The opening night of “DOLLY: A True Original Musical” falls on the legendary singer’s 81st birthday: Jan. 19, 2027.

The show will play exclusively at the St. James Theatre in New York.

“My whole life has been a musical. A grand ole opera really! We have a wonderful director, sets, costumes, choreography, music, and all the things you need to make a wonderful, entertaining show! Can’t wait to see you there!” Parton said in a statement to the Daily Caller.

Director Bartlett Sher added, “Dolly has never really shared her story before. She’s offered glimpses and peeks, but this musical allows her to reveal the unfiltered story in her own words.”

Sher continued, “As we prepare to come to Broadway, we’re thrilled to show that rhinestones were never her whole story.”

The musical will feature iconic hits “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “9 to 5.”

Parton’s social media pages were flooded with excitement as fans from around the world shared enthusiastic messages expressing their anticipation for this new chapter in the country music icon’s career.
