REPORT: Police Detain Hip Hop Star In High-Profile Murder Investigation

Police reportedly detained rapper YG Thursday morning while executing a search warrant connected to the murder of Drakeo the Ruler, according to KTLA 5.

The Burbank SWAT team, assisted by the California Highway Patrol, issued a search warrant at a Burbank Commercial unit that belongs to YG 6:30 am Thursday, California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Sgt. Christian Stevens told KTLA 5.

YG was on the premises when the warrant was issued and was detained during the search.

Stevens did not disclose if anything was found or removed from the premises during the search, according to KTLA 5.

Police later released YG, according to KTLA 5.

Drakeo the Ruler was stabbed to death in 2021 while backstage at the “Once Upon a Time” festival in Los Angeles, headlined by Snoop Dogg. He was 28 years old at the time of his death.

YG was known to have had issues with Drakeo the Ruler before his untimely death, and was also on the roster of performers at the festival when Drakeo the Ruler was tragically killed, but has denied involvement in his murder. YG is scheduled to take the stage against The Game Thursday night in the “Compton Forever” VERZUZ battle, but it’s unclear whether he plans to proceed with his commitment, which was set to begin at 6:30 pm, according to KTLA 5.
