Police Arrest Man Pope Leo Declared Miracle As Baby
A Rhode Island man, whose birth was declared a miracle by Pope Leo XIV after he remained without oxygen for over an hour, was arrested in connection with a shooting in his state.

Officers with the Newport Police Department arrested Tyquan Johnson, 19, on Wednesday, according to an official statement. He was taken into custody and charged with “Felony Assault with a Firearm and Discharging a Firearm in a Compact Area.”
Newport Police Officers responded to the scene of a shooting at around 9:55pm on July 19. Two victims were found with “non-threatening injuries.”
Officers found that two suspects were involved, and identified one as Johnson. The U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested him Wednesday in Newport News, Virginia.
The investigation is ongoing and the second suspect’s location is unknown as of early Thursday.

Pope Leo XIV declared Johnson’s 2007 birth a miracle in 2025. When Johnson, at the time Tyquan Hall, was born, he “barely had a pulse,” and “had a slow heart rate.”
“After not breathing for 65 minutes despite life-saving measures, and with no heartbeat, the physician prayed for the intercession of Father Valera and the boy suddenly recovered, suffering no apparent damage from the lengthy period of oxygen deprivation,” the Diocese of Providence said in a statement.

Father Timothy Reilly, chancellor of Diocese of Providence, said the miracle “is a reminder of the power of prayer and the intercession of holy men and women.” (RELATED: Pope Praises American Legal Fund’s Efforts To Defend Religious Liberty)
“God is indeed close to us,” Reilly continued. “We are thrilled that this recognition will move the cause of beatification and canonization forward for Venerable Servant of God Salvador Valera Parra.”
Due to the lack of oxygen, Johnson was expected to experience developmental delays or disabilities. Johnson said that he feels like a regular person.
“I feel normal. I can do everything. I can jump, run, eat, sleep,” he told WAVY. “I can do everything a normal person would do. It definitely has changed my faith a lot because I’m destined to be in this world. If God didn’t want me in this world, He would just let me die on that table. But he wanted to give me a second chance.”
At the time, Johnson told the outlet he wants to join the military and work in the computer field.
