The suspect, 32-year-old Di-Quan Schafar Hunt, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon after the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department identified a social media account containing multiple videos under investigation, the department said in a statement.
Among the videos was one that appears to show Hunt filming himself committing an assault that had been reported on July 30, police said. (RELATED: Watch Cop Bring Mass Shooter’s Rampage To Screeching Halt)
The reports said the suspect had punched the victim on a sidewalk before fleeing the scene as the victim was transported to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, the statement said.
The video has been circulating on social media and remains on its original Instagram account.

The video begins with what appears to be Hunt rambling about “the real issue” of July 21 before turning the camera around to show a woman in a pink tank top carrying a balloon walking opposite Hunt on the sidewalk.
“Don’t wave to me,” he yells before punching the woman, causing her to collapse to the ground.
As the woman lies there with her eyes open, but unable to move or respond, Hunt films himself slapping the victim multiple times while pointing at her and yelling about July 21 and his son Elijah.
Another video was shared by the same account showing Hunt taking the woman’s sunglasses before walking away.

An earlier video also shared by Hunt shows him chasing down a woman while repeatedly yelling, “What’s up with that McDonald’s sh*t?” as the woman runs into oncoming traffic to escape Hunt.
“You Donald Trump motherf*cker, and that other motherf*cker, who raped my son Elijah, I’m going to f*cking kill you, n*gga,” he rambled.
Hunt was taken into custody before being transported to a local medical facility for treatment and will be transferred to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office to face the charges after his release, police said.
County records show the 5-foot-9 black male had previously been arrested at least nine times, including two counts of breaking or entering, injury to personal property, and three counts of assault, including one with a deadly weapon and another against a woman.
Charlotte is the same city where Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee, was stabbed in the neck and killed in August 2025, with a video that was also shared widely on social media.
The video showed what police believe to be the killer, a black man named Decarlos Brown Jr., stabbing Zarutska in the neck unprovoked, as the video shows her grabbing her bleeding neck while bleeding out on the floor of the light rail. Brown was also declared mentally unfit, with the local U.S. attorney deciding he was not yet able to stand trial in June.
