8-Year-Old Fisherman Bizarrely Catches Piranha In Pennsylvania Lake
You never know what’s in those waters, and this is a great example of that.
An 8-year-old Pennsylvania fisherman recently went for a trip to catch some bass and catfish, but he instead caught an incredibly exotic (and violent) fish that you only find in … South America?
Believe it or not, ladies and gentlemen, he caught a piranha.
The boy’s name is Seamus Coffey, and he was on the fishing trip Saturday with his father, Michael, at Ridley Park Lake. Originally, Seamus thought he had a bass on the line.
Dad, on the other hand, knew rather quickly that this wasn’t a normal catch.

When they reeled the fish in and they got it on land, the father was trying to figure out what species of fish it was, but his son knew in seconds.

“He said, ‘It’s a piranha!’” said Michael.
And how did Seamus know?
“Because I watch YouTube!” he said.
Michael opened up Google on his phone and pulled up some pictures of piranhas, ultimately agreeing with his son. Later, it was confirmed by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission that the fish was a piranha species. The fish was two pounds and around 9.5 inches.
As we all know, piranhas are not native to suburban Philadelphia, but rather South America, so this has state officials thinking that the fish was a pet that someone didn’t want anymore.
I’m just saying, I’m totally owning a pet piranha one day when I get rich … crypto dreams right there.
