What Bad Economy? NBA Opening Night Tickets For Knicks-76ers Going For Nearly $2,000

Sports fans aren’t letting the economy get them down.

The NBA is getting off to one hell of a start with its opening night Oct. 20 as LeBron James debuts as a Philadelphia 76er against the New York Knicks, with the game taking place at Madison Square Garden.

As I’m sure you’re already aware, there will be an incredible amount of interest in this game. You have the 76ers, who also brought in guard Jaylen Brown over the offseason, facing off against their Atlantic Division rivals fresh off a championship. Yes, it’s pretty iconic, and it’s showing in the ticket prices.

Currently, the get-in price for a 76ers-Knicks ticket is a whopping $1,744, according to Gametime. This is a drastic difference compared to the prices of the two other NBA opening-night games. For the Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons, the get-in price is $195, while for the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs, it is $450.

Is it me, or is the sport of basketball turning into an exclusive country club event reserved for tech moguls, Wall Street executives, and celebrities who will spend half the game checking their phones?
