REPORT: Investigation Into Hayden Panettiere’s Death Takes Dramatic Turn

Police are reportedly probing Hayden Panettiere’s death to determine if there was any criminal conduct.

TMZ reported Wednesday that law enforcement officials are not satisfied that Panettiere’s death was the result of an overdose of prescribed medications, and are trying to determine if there were other factors involved in her tragic passing.

The Greenville Police Department is leading the investigation and is reportedly looking into the potential involvement of the star’s on-again, off-again boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, who was at the scene when Panettiere was pronounced dead.

TMZ reported that police arrived at Hickerson’s family’s home Wednesday morning, but did not disclose the nature of their discussion.

A law enforcement source told the outlet the police investigation into the star’s death was triggered by the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, including that she was only 36 years old and her death was “unexpected.”

An autopsy was completed and showed no obvious signs of trauma, but the toxicology results remain pending, according to TMZ.

Hickerson and his brother were reportedly inside the apartment when first responders arrived to provide life-saving efforts to Panettiere, who was unresponsive at the time.

NBC News reported that Hickerson was not visibly emotional until EMS pronounced the star dead. His brother was reportedly “very emotional” the entire time. The outlet reported that Hickerson produced a “bag of medication” that he told officials the actress was taking at the time of her death.

Panettiere’s mother, Lesley Vogel, broke her silence Tuesday, squarely pointing at Hickerson.

“This person in her life that we have been trying to get rid of for quite some time was with her at her death, and that was Brian Hickerson,” she told NBC News.

Panettiere detailed harrowing incidents of domestic abuse during her relationship with Hickerson in her memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning,” released in May.

Hickerson was arrested, a restraining order was issued, and he was sentenced to probation, according to Rolling Stone.

Page Six reported August 17 that a judge denied Hickerson’s request to reduce his past felony charges just three days before Panettiere’s death.
