‘You Don’t See Sexuality’: Famous Actor Doubles Down On Belief That Spider-Man Can Be Gay
Andrew Garfield doubled down on his belief that there’s room for a gay Spider-Man in the future.

He reiterated his belief in an Aug. 31 interview with Entertainment Weekly, echoing the same sentiment he first shared with the outlet in 2013, when he said, “Anyone can be in that suit.”
“Why can’t he be gay? Why can’t he be into boys?” Garfield said in his most recent interview.
Garfield’s interview was intended to center around the premiere of his new historical drama, “The Uprising,” but the conversation about gay Spider-Man took the spotlight.
Recalling his previous statements on the matter, Garfield said, “It was an exercise in rebellion that I felt passionate about,” before noting his stance has not wavered.

“I just still believe that anyone can be in that suit.”
Garfield continued, “That’s the point of why it’s such a kind of universally beloved character, one of the greatly beloved characters in the history of fiction – is because you don’t see skin color, you don’t see gender, you don’t see sexuality.”

Garfield admitted that he likes “the idea of a place where everyone is being honored, and everyone is being included.”
There have been several variations of Spider-Man depicted in the films, but the franchise has not yet included a gay Spider-Man in the live-action films.
