Former NFL Scout Blaise Taylor Given Two Life Sentences For Using Cocaine To Murder Pregnant Girlfriend
Blaise Taylor, an ex-scout for the Tennessee Titans and defensive back for Arkansas State, was given two consecutive life sentences Wednesday for murdering his pregnant girlfriend and unborn child in 2023.
In July, Taylor was found guilty of poisoning Jade Benning, his then-girlfriend, by spiking her lemonade with cocaine Feb. 25, 2023. At the time, Benning was five months pregnant. Her unborn child died two days later, and Benning herself died on Mar. 6, her 25th birthday, of acute cocaine poisoning. It’s believed that the child was Taylor’s. According to Nashville’s WSMV, Nijaiha Jackson, a friend of Benning’s, provided testimony regarding a phone call she got from Benning the same night the poisoning took place.

“She immediately starts saying, ‘What did you do? What did you put in my drink?’ Then I heard her say, ‘Blaise, you’re scaring me,’” Jackson testified. “He said, ‘You’re scaring me.’ And she was like, ‘I know you put something in my drink. … I knew my drink tasted funny. … You did this so something would happen to the baby.’”
A Nashville jury convicted Taylor, who pleaded not guilty, on four counts: first-degree felony murder of Benning, second-degree murder of Benning, first-degree murder of an unborn child and first-degree felony murder of the unborn child. Jury deliberations took just two hours, according to WSMV.
