Browns’ Deshaun Watson, Already Mired In Scandal, Finds Himself In Legal Trouble Days Before Opening Game

Deshaun Watson, a quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, was issued a citation for speeding on an interstate in August. According to court records, he pleaded not guilty Wednesday morning.

Watson was issued the citation Aug. 26 after he allegedly drove 86 mph in a 60 mph zone, according to Fox8.

The 30-year-old Watson was named the franchise’s Week 1 starter following a competition in training camp against Shedeur Sanders.

When Watson starts against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Browns’ season opener Sunday, it will be his first regular-season start since his Achilles tendon tear in Oct. 2024.

Watson has already been mired in scandal, facing nearly 30 civil lawsuits from women who accused him of sexual misconduct.

There’s also tension between Watson and some Cleveland fans, stemming from the Browns’ preseason defeat to the Buffalo Bills.

While coming into the game in the second half, Watson was booed, and those boos got louder as he threw incompletions and one interception during his time on the field.

Watson seemed irritated by the fans’ boos and branded them “personal” and “disrespectful” while speaking to the media after the game. The quarterback also suggested he might prefer road games to the hostile environment at Huntington Bank Field.

Watson later clarified his comments after he was named the team’s starting quarterback, saying that “human nature” and the emotions around his comeback from injuries influenced his words at the time.
