That’s the brutal indictment handed down by New York Times writer Nikole Hannah-Jones’s own daughter.
Hannah-Jones, the author of the 1619 Project, admits in her latest article that she deliberately put her daughter in a poorly performing, black-majority public school in service of a larger political cause.

She believed, according to the rather stunning piece, that her influence, wealth and connections could help improve the failing school. Rather than leave poor black children to languish in a broken system, Hannah-Jones reasoned, families like hers had an obligation to stay, invest and help lift the school up with them. Fleeing to a better — but whiter — school would amount to abandoning the people she believed she was fighting for.
Ten years after the start of the experiment, Hannah-Jones realized her daughter was the one who was betrayed.
