Elliott got into a altercation with offensive lineman JC Latham, according to an Oct. 21 post shared on X by NFL Insider Ari Meirov revealing the dismissal. Elliott was told to leave the field, then stormed out of the facility and went to the players’ parking lot to retrieve the gun from inside his car, according to Meirov. The alleged incident was reportedly captured on security cameras.

Defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers deescalated the situation and the gun never left Elliott’s car, according to ESPN. Elliott did not travel to Indianapolis for the Titans’ Oct. 18 game in which they defeated the Indianapolis Colts by a score of 26-20.

Titans head coach Robert Saleh told reporters Elliott would not be available before an Oct. 16 practice because he was “dealing with personal stuff.” The Titans have notified the NFL of the incident, ESPN reported. A spokesperson for the NFL confirmed the incident is under review, according to NBC Sports.

Under the NFL’s gun policy, all employees, including players, are not permitted to have firearms at any facility, stadium, or other venue being used by the league, including training camp, practice sites, games, and parking areas.

“Put simply, the League, the Players Association and law enforcement authorities urge you to recognize that you must not possess a gun or other weapon at any time you are performing any service for your team or the NFL,” the policy reads.

“If you violate this policy on guns and other weapons, you are subject to discipline, including suspension from playing. And if you violate a public law covering weapons — for example, possession of an unlicensed firearm — you are not only subject to discipline, including suspension from playing, but also subject to criminal prosecution,” the policy continues. Elliott, who previously played with the San Francisco 49ers, signed a two-year, $8.5 million deal with the Titans during the offseason, according to ESPN. He played five games this season.

Saleh defended Elliott while speaking with reporters, saying the defensive lineman is a “good man” who had a “terrible lapse in judgment.”
