A Southern Poverty Law Center employee allegedly used donor money to fund a romantic relationship with an informant in a \u201cneo-Nazi\u201d organization, according to a Justice Department superseding indictment filed Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The indictment alleges that the employee was secretly paid more than $1.2 million in donor money from the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). Roughly $140,000 of the $1.2 million was then used to fund a romantic relationship between the employee and the \u201cneo-Nazi\u201d informant, according to the .<\/p>\n

The indictment alleges that a fictional \u201cTech Writers Group\u201d was used by SPLC employees to launder money to various bank accounts. (RELATED: SPLC Donor Money Paid For Klan Hoods And \u2018Cross-Burning\u2019 Supplies, DOJ Says)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The donor\u2019s money moved from the SPLC to the Tech Writer\u2019s account and then finally to the joint bank accounts held by the couple. The $140,000 laundered using this method accounted for about 66% of all money ever deposited into those joint accounts, according to the document.<\/p>\n

The SPLC did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis investigation remains ongoing, and the superseding indictment returned by the grand jury reflects the results of that continued investigative work,\u201d Doug Howard, a public affairs officer at the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office in the Middle District of Alabama, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. \u201cGiven the pending nature of the case, no further comment will be provided at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Alabama-based charity denied the allegations and moved to the case on May 26.<\/p>\n

The employee and the informant allegedly shared a house and two bank accounts between 2015 and 2021, according to the document.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The document also alleges that the SPLC reimbursed Ku Klux Klan members for cross-burning and uniform expenses.<\/p>\n

The SPLC faces charges of wire fraud, making false statements to a federally insured bank and conspiracy to commit money laundering tied to its field source program. If convicted, the organization could be forced to forfeit assets connected to the alleged scheme.<\/p>\n
