Musician Paul McCartney shared his perspective on his infamous feud with \u201cThe Beatles\u201d bandmate John Lennon during a May 30 interview.<\/p>\n

Addressing the \u201churtful\u201d feud that tainted the final years of \u201cThe Beatles,\u201d McCartney told the New Music Express (NME) that business disputes strained their friendship as well as their working relationship, but they were eventually able to find common ground. The musician was a member of \u201cThe Beatles\u201d from when the band launched as \u201cThe Quarrymen\u201d in 1957 until they broke apart in 1970.<\/p>\n

When asked if he felt he had to honor and write about Lennon or George Harrison \u201cin the right way\u201d or as they were to him, McCartney replied, \u201cI suppose so. I never think of it like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tension rose between the McCartney and Lennon when they didn\u2019t see eye-to-eye about the Beatles\u2019 management. McCartney was fond of his father-in-law, entertainment lawyer Lee Eastman, but his bandmates leaned toward businessman Allen Klein, according to People. McCartney remained steadfast in his views and refused to sign Klein\u2019s contracts, claiming they were unfair. The band eventually dissolved.<\/p>\n

Their disagreements were public, but McCartney insisted that he still has \u201cvery good\u201d memories of Lennon and Harrison.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t feel like I have to be respectful,\u201d he told NME about Lennon.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s just a mate \u2014 it\u2019s just this guy who I met, and we wrote songs together, so I don\u2019t feel a sense of responsibility. I hope it is responsible,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

McCartney admitted it wasn\u2019t such an easy situation at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201c[T]owards the end of \u2018The Beatles,\u2019 John was slagging me off a lot. At the time, it was very hurtful, like sticking little daggers in me,\u201d he told the outlet.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was just annoying, because you thought, \u2018I\u2019ve got to answer him back, what am I going to do?\u2019 But I suddenly realized, \u2018Wait a minute, this is John. This is the guy I\u2019ve known since I was 16. That\u2019s just what he does.\u2019 It didn\u2019t sting so much once I realized it was just John being John.\u201d<\/p>\n

The bandmates and pals reconciled their differences in 1975, in a moment that McCartney admitted was \u201cimportant\u201d and organic. He said they regained their bonds through parenthood and family life, according to People.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was lucky because we\u2019d been separated because of the business trouble and stuff, and John eventually came round to my way of thinking that the guy they wanted to bring in [Allen Klein] was a crook,\u201d McCartney told NME.<\/p>\n

McCartney said Lennon eventually admitted that he was wrong, and he felt validated.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was good to hear John say, \u2018I think Paul might have been right\u2019 \u2014 begrudgingly,\u201d McCartney said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe wasn\u2019t one to say, \u2018Yeah, you know what Paul told me\u2026!\u2019 He was like, \u2018[mumbles] Yeah, he was right.\u2019 So that made it much better,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

At the end of it all, McCartney said he believed the relationship breakdown was a part of the band\u2019s journey.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though it was a painful period, we kinda had to go through it, or someone would have robbed us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
