The filing contained no<\/span><span>\u00a0details of any settlement, noting only that each party would cover legal fees.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Trump <\/span><span>filed the lawsuit<\/span><span> against the IRS and the Treasury Department in a Miami federal court in January 2026, alleging mismanagement of protected information after tax records from his first term in office were leaked in 2019. A hearing was scheduled for May 27.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_3 --> <\/p>\n<p><span>Democrat politicians raged after <\/span><span>reports<\/span><span> of the settlement and a fund for victims of government weaponization circulated online. \u201c<\/span><span>This, of course, is a political grievance fund that Donald Trump can use to pay off his friends,\u201d Democrat Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland <\/span><span>told ABC<\/span><span> on a Sunday interview. The top democrat of the House Judiciary Committee called the settlement \u201cunconstitutional\u201d and an \u201cinvention on [Trump\u2019s] part.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee <\/span><span>filed a motion<\/span><span> to block the settlement on Monday, led in part by Rep. Raskin and House Minority Leader Democrat Rep. Hakeem Jeffries of New York. Nearly 100 House Democrats submitted an <\/span><span> on Monday as well, arguing that the lawsuit was unconstitutional.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The \u201cAnti-Weaponization Fund,\u201d announced by Attorney General Todd Blanche, will \u201cmake right the wrongs\u201d and have the power to \u201cissue formal apologies and monetary relief\u201d to claimants. The fund is scheduled to close no later than December 1, 2028.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The White House referred the Daily Caller to the Department of Justice for comment.
