The Trump administration\u2019s Department of War is expressing concern that Israel is spying on the U.S. \u2014 including on its negotiations to end the Iran war, according to multiple reports.<\/p>\n

The Pentagon is ramping up in its responses to alleged Israeli espionage, including recently raising the country\u2019s counterintelligence threat level to \u201ccritical,\u201d NBC News reported Friday, citing three anonymous current and former U.S. officials. U.S. intelligence reports also indicate Israel had made efforts to listen in on conversations involving senior U.S. officials such as Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, one of the lead negotiators in the peace talks with Iran, The New York Times reported Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The White House has vehemently denied both of the reports. The Pentagon, meanwhile, declined to comment to both NBC News and The New York Times.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis entire story is false and sourced to someone who doesn\u2019t have any knowledge of what\u2019s going on,\u201d a White House official said in a statement to NBC News.<\/p>\n

\u201cIsrael does not gather intelligence on American entities, let alone US government officials,\u201d a spokesperson for the Israeli Embassy in D.C. told the outlet, adding that the allegations are \u201ccompletely false.\u201d<\/p>\n

Two anonymous senior U.S. military officials vaguely told The New York Times that American personnel make it a point to protect their phones and other electronics when traveling to Israel.<\/p>\n

Neither the White House nor the Department of War immediately responded to the Daily Caller News Foundation\u2019s (DCNF) requests for comment.<\/p>\n

\u201cIsrael targeting senior U.S. officials cannot be accepted by our government,\u201d former Director of the National Counterterrorism Center Joe Kent wrote on X in reaction to both outlets\u2019 reports.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not standard practice, especially considering the fact that Israel survives on our defense funding & diplomatic top cover,\u201d added Kent, who resigned his post over opposition to the conflict with Iran. \u201cUntil we actually take away the support we give Israel they will keep playing us as fools.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kent maintains Israel pressured the U.S. into the ongoing conflict despite his view Iran did not pose an \u201cimminent\u201d threat, as the administration cited as a justification for the war.<\/p>\n

Israeli officials convinced the Trump administration to wage war on Iran after pitching an attack plan \u2014 which multiple cabinet members immediately panned \u2014 at a top-secret White House meeting, The New York Times reported in early April. U.S. and Israeli forces launched joint attacks on the Middle Eastern country on Feb. 28, 17 days after the alleged meeting. CIA Director John Ratcliffe denounced the plan as \u201cfarcical,\u201d while Secretary of State Marco Rubio \u2014 widely considered a staunch supporter of Israel \u2014 called it \u201cbullshit.\u201d<\/p>\n

The New York Times\u2019s Saturday report alleges Israel and the U.S. have both long spied on each other, and have known about and put up with such actions.<\/p>\n

Former CIA officer and whistleblower John Kiriakou, however, disputed the notion that Israel and the U.S.\u2019s spying on each other was two-sided during an interview with podcaster Theo Von which aired Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Israelis spy on the United States. They\u2019ve always spied on the United States,\u201d he told Von on \u201cThis Past Weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDo we spy on them also?\u201d the host asked in turn.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo,\u201d Kiriakou forcefully said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s written in stone at the CIA. We do not spy on Israel, but they openly spy on us. They\u2019re all over the country stealing defense secrets.\u201d<\/p>\n

The whistleblower added that, while the U.S. spies on \u201calmost every\u201d other country, it cannot spy on Israel due to a \u201cpolitical decision\u201d made by the White House and Congress.<\/p>\n
