One such reminder is a video posted Thursday on X by the Gun Lovers Club account. At first glance, it seems like just another cool video showing the exercise of our Second Amendment rights, but a closer look reveals more about the apparent idiocy of the person involved than the coolness involved.<\/p>\n

The first six seconds of the 15-second video shows a relatively young man jumping on a trampoline in his backyard and firing a semiautomatic pistol in various positions. (RELATED: Social Media Video Shows Why You Should Mind Your Muzzle)<\/strong><\/p>\n

To be fair, we\u2019re only seeing the view of the guy shooting \u2013 we don\u2019t know exactly what he\u2019s aiming at \u2013 and it looks cool, don\u2019t get me wrong. But \u201clooks cool\u201d isn\u2019t going to erase the fact that there was precious little common sense in doing the stunt that landed this person 15 seconds of social media notoriety.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s recall some of the basic rules of firearms safety: The first one is to treat every gun as if it were loaded. Now, jumping on a trampoline with a loaded firearm might give you some Hollywood-type moments, and it isn\u2019t quite the dumbest thing you can do with a gun, but it ranks up there.<\/p>\n

The second rule is to keep the muzzle of the firearm pointed in a safe direction \u2013 a rule that we discussed earlier. Now, maybe it\u2019s just me, but bouncing on a trampoline and trying to do some sort of Simone Biles impression while holding a loaded semi-auto pistol makes following that rule extremely difficult \u2013 arguably impossible, one can argue.<\/p>\n

Then of course, there is rule three: Be sure of the target and what is beyond. It\u2019s kind of hard to see how one can follow that rule while one\u2019s bouncing around and their body is being turned in various directions.<\/p>\n

Finally, rule four: Never have your finger on the trigger unless you are ready to fire. The bouncing gunman apparently felt he was ready to fire while in a situation where he couldn\u2019t be sure he was following rules two and three. By any logical understanding, he was nowhere near ready to fire in accordance with any semblance of firearms safety.<\/p>\n

Granted, Hollywood movies may have some cool moments, but Hollywood has long had troubles with accurate portrayals of firearms \u2013 and many of the big names back gun control. Perhaps it\u2019s best to not try to emulate what is seen on the screens.<\/p>\n
