The jury deliberated for less than four hours before Anthony was found guilty of murdering 17-year-old Metcalf on Tuesday, promptly being sentenced to 35 years in prison. Anthony plunged a knife into Metcalf\u2019s heart after the two had a dispute during a track meet, leaving him to die in his twin brother\u2019s arms.<\/p>\n

Crockett avoided addressing the brutality of the attack, saying Karmelo only ended up \u201cpuncturing\u201d Metcalf once with a \u201ctool.\u201d Rather than condemning Anthony, Crockett repeatedly downplayed the horrific incident, saying the system was stacked against the black attacker. \u201cI know that our systems are broken,\u201d Crockett told TMZ Wednesday. \u201cAnd what we saw with that verdict is the evidence of a broken system.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s my understanding that Karmelo ended up stabbing, puncturing, I don\u2019t know what this tool was they talk about, knife or some refer to it as a tool. Um, he ended up hitting Austin one time, and it was about where he hit him. One time. Two inches. This wasn\u2019t someone who said, \u2018Hey, let me stab you five, six, seven times.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Crockett also claimed that Karmelo was sentenced simply because he \u201cdecided to go under a tent that was not his team\u2019s tent as it was raining.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cListen, a lot of people don\u2019t know what it is to live as a black person in this country,\u201d Crockett said.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact that there was little to no mercy seen, or humanity seen, when this black boy said that, \u2018I was scared.\u2019 Or the fact that honestly anybody else who did something with such a small object\u2026 that they wouldn\u2019t even say, \u2018Well, maybe this was more so something that looked like manslaughter.\u201d (RELATED: Karmelo Anthony Found Guilty Of Murder, Sentenced to 35 Years)<\/b><\/p>\n

When asked if she thought Anthony\u2019s race played a role in the verdict, she said, \u201cOh my God. I know Collin County, so absolutely.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can tell you that I\u2019ve had cases that have played out differently because of the counties that they were in. And unfortunately that was not a county for a black boy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI would guarantee you it wouldn\u2019t have happened,\u201d Crockett said when asked if Anthony would have faced the same sentence if he was white. \u201cI don\u2019t even know if he would have been convicted.\u201d<\/p>\n
