Anthony was convicted of murder and received a sentence of 35 years, with possibility of parole after 17 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will be there,\u201d Metcalf\u2019s father said about a possible trial for Anthony\u2019s parole in 17 years. \u201cIf I\u2019m still alive, yes, I will be there in person. If not, I am going to make a video, if I\u2019m passed on, that can be played.\u201d <strong>(RELATED: \u2018You Can\u2019t Look Me In The Eyes, But You Can Stab My Son\u2019: Austin Metcalf\u2019s Parents Unload In Emotional Statement)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The judge presiding over the trial imposed a gag order on Metcalf\u2019s father in the months leading up to the trial. The father gave his first public words on his son\u2019s murder during the victim statement Tuesday at the end of the murder trial, calling Anthony \u201cdespicable\u201d and telling his son\u2019s killer their family was \u201crobbed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Metcalf\u2019s father expressed his outrage and grief \u2014 a \u201cpure, unfiltered rage\u201d \u2014 as a bereaved parent. Jeff Metcalf told Anthony during his victim statement: \u201cYou failed yourself. You failed your parents. You failed society. You don\u2019t belong in this community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_2 --> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis case was never about race,\u201d Metcalf told CBS on Wednesday. \u201cThere\u2019s going to be those people now, just, you know, try to throw shade on the whole trial with the jury makeup and the speed of it and that sort of thing. I mean, those are the same people that said he was jumped by four people. [\u2026] You\u2019re going to spin whatever story to try to keep yourself afloat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anthony\u2019s attorneys filed an intent to appeal Tuesday. The murderer\u2019s family told CBS they were \u201cdelusional\u201d to expect a fair trial, claiming that the country\u2019s racism declared Antony \u201cguilty\u201d before the trial began. And if you have children and if it was your child who was murdered, would you like people dragging his name through the mud, making memes, making jokes, and just really vile comments?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jeff Metcalf also opened up about the process of the family\u2019s healing and forgiveness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is day one of a long healing process. Because honestly, it\u2019s been impossible to start healing until this trial was complete,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat killed me was the bodycam footage when I could hear Hunter screaming, \u2018Oh, God, oh, God. My brother, my twin,&#8217;\u201d Metcalf said. \u201cAs a parent, you always want to protect your kids. And to hear my son and the fear in his voice \u2014 and I\u2019m not there to fix it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I woke up this morning, it was a very different feeling,\u201d Jeff Metcalf told CBS. \u201cI felt like one million pounds had been lifted off my shoulders and this morning was the first day I woke up with a feeling of peace, comfort. Tranquility that I haven\u2019t experienced in 14 months. And I felt awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Metcalf told his son\u2019s murderer that he forgave him during the victim statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cForgiveness was not for him. Forgiveness was for me,\u201d he later told CBS. \u201cSo I don\u2019t carry the rage, the hate, and that around.
