Jim Edmonds, a former star in Major League Baseball, takes patriotism seriously. And while speaking in an interview with OutKick\u2019s Tomi Lahren, he said that he has zero tolerance when it comes to disrespecting the United States, and that he wouldn\u2019t have tolerated it if it happened in a clubhouse he was playing in.<\/p>\n

Edmonds was in MLB for a total of 17 campaigns, becoming one of the greatest defensive center fielders the game of baseball has ever laid their eyes on. Throughout his career, Edmonds won eight Gold Gloves, clocked out almost 400 home runs and was also a four-time All-Star.<\/p>\n

Talking with Lahren, Edmonds said that it wasn\u2019t only his on-field production that meant a lot to him, but also highlighting the respect that he has for the American flag and the U.S. National Anthem. Edmonds and Lahren spoke about whether or not baseball has gotten \u201cpolitical,\u201d and how the George Floyd protests and summer of 2020 was treated by players and culture.<\/p>\n

The St. Louis Cardinals legend acknowledged that MLB has went through some changes, taking he and Lahren\u2019s talk into his own beliefs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I think that people have figured out that it\u2019s great to do that in recognition of those people, but you\u2019re also supposed to be recognizing, let\u2019s say from my beliefs, the National Anthem,\u201d said Edmonds.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a reason we play the National Anthem every day. There\u2019s a reason why we\u00a0stand up and salute. It\u2019s no different than when you see President Trump and the Army walking by. They\u2019re saluting each other. That\u2019s what we do, that\u2019s what we\u2019re taught. I don\u2019t really have any leeway for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Edmonds said that if a teammate would have pulled a Colin Kaepernick while he was the captain of a clubhouse, he would\u2019ve had an issue with it and would\u2019ve taken it on directly in the form of a conversation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I was supposed to be like the captain, if someone was doing that on our team, which we never had anything like that, I would present myself and say, \u2018Hey, what\u2019s going on? You need to continue the education on why we\u2019re standing. I understand what you\u2019re trying to do, but what are we\u00a0really<\/i> doing?’\u201d said Edmonds.<\/p>\n
