It is difficult to deny that intelligence varies considerably between human beings. For instance, I would put forth that Richard Feynman was probably smarter than Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom. Charles Murray was branded a detestable racist for, in essence, summarizing research on the mean intelligence quotient of different races.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Enter: <\/span><span>\u201c<\/span><span>The Mirage of the Gifted Child<\/span><span>,\u201d by Katie Arnold-Ratliff for New York Magazine\u2019s Intelligencer. Arnold-Ratliff questions the existence of \u201cgiftedness\u201d itself.<\/span> <b>(RELATED: Writer For New York Mag Complains About Demographic Replacement)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Giftedness is the notion that smart children turn into smart adults. I\u2019d be fine with throwing out the euphemistic language and just calling them \u201cthe smart ones,\u201d but that would probably get some blowback from parents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_2 --> <\/p>\n<p><span>Arnold-Ratliff argues that most \u201cgifted\u201d children \u201c<\/span><span>lead, at best, ordinary lives of modest accomplishment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Note that this is not an argument against the notion of superior intellect; this is an argument against investing in children with superior intellects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Arnold-Ratliff continues: \u201cA 35-year <\/span><span>study<\/span><span> of 677 gifted children found that by age 50, only 12.3 percent had reached a level of \u2019eminence,\u2019 defined as \u2018full professors \u2026 Fortune 500 executives \u2026 judges and lawyers, leaders in biomedicine, award-winning journalists and writers.\u2019 This means 88 percent never did.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_3 --> <\/p>\n<p><span>Well, 12.3% is a lot. It\u2019s nearly one out of eight. Among \u201cleaders in biomedicine,\u201d for instance, how many were recognized as \u201cgifted\u201d as children?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Consult the opinion of the authors of the study which <span>Arnold-Ratliff <\/span> references. They write: \u201cBy the time children are 13 years old, we can predict who is likely to become eminent and the ways in which their eminence is likely to be expressed in modern economies fueled by innovative products and ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>Arnold-Ratliff has accidentally made a strong argument for the predictive power of \u201cgiftedness.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Arnold-Ratliff\u2019s most egregious assertion is: \u201c<\/span><span>Other psychologists reject the notion of a genetic or biological component of intelligence altogether and believe there is no such thing as innate talent or aptitude, that we can all learn anything with the right teacher.\u201d <\/span><b>(RELATED: Why Is The Left Waging A War On \u2018Gifted\u2019 Children?)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>This is akin to writing an article about radiometric dating and noting that \u201cother scientists reject the notion of a 4.54 billion-year-old Earth, positing our planet was the result of an alien construction project completed about 4,500 years ago.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It\u2019s absurd.
