Experts warn at least one provision of this bill could violate people\u2019s First Amendment rights. (<strong>RELATED: Activists Sue To Stop Red State\u2019s Ban On Advertising Abortion Pills<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA person is guilty of interference with reproductive health care services\u201d if they \u201cpurposely or knowingly\u201d cause \u201ca reasonable person to suffer damage to the person\u2019s business or personal reputation, financial harm, or pain and suffering, mental anguish, or emotional harm on the basis that the person, entity, or facility provides, volunteers, assists with, or receives reproductive health care services,\u201d the bill . \u201cThe civil penalty imposed on each actor shall not exceed $10,000 for a first violation, and shall not exceed $25,000 for a second or subsequent violation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"786\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FNJ.com%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0DZ87tzywojnxzGhgYqzRHq1m7ZdSvp8Jwueu6fSAt5Xa67XgXyYqZFwCfkZk39LTl&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin\u2019s office, the ACLU of New Jersey, and New Jersey Press Association did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation\u2019s requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_2 --> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese bills lack basic constitutional safeguards and would punish truthful reporting relating to reproductive health care services, as well as protected opinions about such services,\u201d a New Jersey Press Association spokesperson reportedly told NJ.com. \u201cA reporter could be civilly or criminally liable for publishing an article about the troubling practices of a reproductive healthcare services provider, even if the reporting was well-documented and fully accurate. A provider could simply assert his or her reputation or emotions were harmed by that truthful reporting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)\u2019s New Jersey chapter also chimed in their concerns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been supportive overall, but this one provision is concerning,\u201d ACLU of New Jersey Legislative Director John Butler reportedly told the outlet. \u201cFrom our point of view, we want protections for abortion providers and clients but we also need to protect people\u2019s constitutional rights to speech. It  aimed to ban interference with \u201cgender-affirming care\u201d access, according to a press release by New Jersey General Assembly\u2019s Democratic caucus last May.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s work on something that really protects kids, focusing on the genuine underlying problems,\u201d Republican Assemblyman Paul Kanitra posted on X the evening those provisions were axed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew Jersey Right to Life will continue to defend every child in the womb, support mothers and families in crisis, and protect the fundamental right to speak and assemble without fear of prosecution.
