News of the budding peace process between the U.S. and Iran incensed members of the Israeli political class, with one pundit accusing the president\u2019s Jewish son-in-law, Jared Kushner, of betraying his \u201creal home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump announced the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Iran on Sunday, the first step in a longer series of negotiations, if it is formally signed Friday in Geneva, Switzerland. Israel was reportedly sidelined during the process and did not see the MOU draft.<\/p>\n

Since then, the president has sharply criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over Israel\u2019s occupation of Southern Lebanon, a major issue that could spoil any chance of peace. Netanyahu and other members of his right-wing coalition have vowed to keep Israeli troops in the region for as long as they see fit. The Israeli political class erupted in the wake of the MOU news and Trump\u2019s G7 rebuke, with right-wing commentators slamming the U.S. president and his envoy while members of the opposition took shots at Netanyahu. The Israeli prime minister is running for another term, and the election must be held by the end of October.<\/p>\n

Channel 14 News journalist Yinon Magal, a close ally of Netanyahu\u2019s, called Trump \u201ca loser,\u201d referred to Kushner and Steve Witkoff as \u201cthe two little Jews who sold out their brothers in Israel,\u201d and Vice President JD Vance as a \u201clowlife,\u201d according to an X translation.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Kushner currently serves on the administration\u2019s \u201cBoard of Peace,\u201d handling high-level diplomatic negotiations in Europe and the Middle East. Witkoff serves as the U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are part of these people,\u201d she reportedly said. \u201cWe are here, among other things, to defend you, too. In the end, this is your real home, and we are guarding it for you and for your future generations. And you turn your backs on us like this? Simply losers.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ire wasn\u2019t only directed at the Trump administration, as Netanyahu took a beating\u00a0from his political rivals.<\/p>\n

\u201cIsrael is paying the price of Netanyahu\u2019s hubris and blindness, and the price of the manipulations that he tried to pull on Trump,\u201d former Prime Minister Ehud Barak said Monday, according to The Associated Press. \u201cIran emerged stronger; Israel emerged weaker. That is Netanyahu\u2019s strategic responsibility. He failed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yair Lapid, who will challenge Netanyahu in the next elections, said the deal was \u201cone of the most shocking failures in Israel\u2019s foreign and security policy \u2026 entirely registered in Netanyahu\u2019s name,\u201d The AP reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt can be fixed, it must be fixed,\u201d he wrote. \u201cNetanyahu can no longer fix it, we will do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Netanyahu\u2019s Likud Party has reportedly scrapped campaign ads that highlight the prime minister\u2019s close ties to the U.S. and Trump.<\/p>\n
