The End-of-Life Options for Terminally Ill Patients Act (EOLA) lacks the necessary \u201cguard rails\u201d to protect disabled patients from being discriminated against by physicians, according to the June 11 . <strong>(RELATED: Canadian Priest Says Hospital Asked Him To Consider Assisted Suicide Twice After Broken Hip)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor people with disabilities overall, I don\u2019t think \u2026 [EOLA is] a safe bet, because just like me, anybody could have an infection and fall prey to doctors who are not as scrupulous as others,\u201dplaintiff Ebony Payne, a quadriplegic from Chicago said.\u00a0\u201cMany people who can\u2019t or don\u2019t have these opportunities to speak up for themselves \u2026 [H]opefully I do a well enough job to help their voice be heard, especially in situations like this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe perception that Ebony is suffering every day, that she is better off dead, is discrimination,\u201d attorney Michael Bien said. \u201cThe idea that we can categorize people and say certain people should be eligible for suicide and other people are not is discrimination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_2 --> <\/p>\n<p>Democratic Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed EOLA in December. Assisted suicide laws send a message from the state, that some people are disposable, aren\u2019t worth the healthcare dollars, better off dead. It\u2019s not only false, it\u2019s unAmerican [sic],\u201d an IPR spokesperson told the DCNF. \u201cThe US has been exceptional in rejecting public policies like this.
