The lawmakers argue that ActBlue improperly invoked attorney-client privilege to withhold documents sought by congressional investigators.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The lawmakers rejected what they described as \u201cbaseless privilege claims\u201d and demanded that ActBlue turn over the documents by June 26.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The dispute is the latest escalation in a yearslong Republican investigation into whether ActBlue\u2019s donation screening practices allowed fraudulent or foreign contributions to flow into U.S. political campaigns. <\/span>The letter to Wallace-Jones explains that for over a year, \u201cthe Committees have conducted oversight regarding ActBlue\u2019s \u2018fundamentally unserious approach to fraud prevention,\u2019 which may allow bad actors \u2014 including foreign nationals \u2014 to make large-scale fraudulent donations on Democrats\u2019 top fundraising platform.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_2 --> <\/p>\n<p><span>The New York Post reported that congressional investigators are specifically seeking documents related to internal complaints, employee resignations and whistleblower allegations involving ActBlue\u2019s legal and compliance operations. In a June 10 Washington Post op-ed, she argued that invoking the Fifth Amendment was \u201cthe only reasonable response\u201d to what she characterized as a partisan effort targeting a Democratic fundraising platform.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_3 --> <\/p>\n<p><span>Republicans, however, point to a growing body of evidence they say warrants additional scrutiny. In April, the three committees released an interim staff report alleging that ActBlue weakened certain fraud-prevention measures in 2024 despite concerns about potentially fraudulent transactions and foreign donations. The report also cited internal turmoil within the organization\u2019s legal and compliance departments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>ActBlue remains one of the Democratic Party\u2019s most important fundraising tools.
