\u201cI always think of myself as a Christian who hates Christianity,\u201d Talarico said during his 2021 appearance on the podcast. \u201cAnd, like, I always get drawn back into [Christianity] because nowhere else in no other political philosophy, in no other economic theory, do I find anything as truly radical or revolutionary as the teachings of that barefoot rabbi, right?\u201d<\/p>\n

The Democrat candidate joined the \u201cNavigating Love & Legislature\u201d episode to discuss \u201cTexas, his theology, and how he\u2019s called to govern during these times.\u201d (RELATED: Bible-Thumping Democrat Says White People Spread \u2018Virus Of Racism\u2019 Just By Being Alive)<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the podcast hosts, Dr. Roberto Che Espinoza, is a<\/span> \u201cnon-binary transqueer Latinx\u201d pastor. The founder of the Activist Theology Project, she is a \u201creluctant leader\u201d who advocates for \u201ctransing religion.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Activist Theology podcast focuses on \u201ca diversity of tactics to achieve social healing\u201d and aims to \u201cexplore the work of liberation and healing justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

After reading Espinoza\u2019s book, \u201cActivist Theology,\u201d Talarico described himself as a \u201cfan boy\u201d of the transqueer pastor. Talarico told Espinoza her work \u201ccontinues to inspire\u201d him during the interview.<\/p>\n

Talarico will face Republican Texas nominee Ken Paxton in the November general election.<\/p>\n

At another point during the episode, he referenced Jesus Christ, saying, \u201cthe most popular figure in our country, particularly on the conservative right, is this socialist anarchist from ancient Palestine, right? It\u2019s such a strange paradox to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Talarico previously called Christianity the \u201cmost violent\u201d religion during a New Yorker feature, arguing that Christianity has done more harm to Judaism and Islam than the two religions have done to each other.<\/p>\n

During a speech delivered on the Texas House floor in 2021, Talarico said, \u201cGod is nonbinary,\u201d adding that God is \u201cboth masculine and feminine, and everything in between.\u201d The Texas Democrat also called transgender children \u201cperfect, beautiful, and sacred.\u201d<\/p>\n
