Northern Arizona University\u2019s College of Health and Human Services announced Thursday it is now accepting applications for two AI training programs for healthcare employees involved in public and clinical health.<\/span><\/p>\n

The goal of the programs is to give healthcare workers \u201cthe knowledge and skills they need to build AI tools that can gather and analyze the massive amounts of health data already available and use those tools to provide more personalized care to patients and communities,\u201d <\/span>according<\/span> to an announcement from NAU published in SignalsAZ. \u201cIt\u2019s not replacing the physician; it\u2019s allowing you to know more and make a more informed choice,\u201d Program Director Tim Curry said in a statement. \u201cIt\u2019s allowing us to take the vast amount of data that we have and learn more than we\u2019ve been able to in the past.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

NAU did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation\u2019s request for comment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Both online training programs can be used by students based in NAU\u2019s Flagstaff, Arizona campus and across the state as well as for employees who desire further education, according to the news release. No prior coding experience is required for enrollees.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve spoken to multiple hospital groups, and they see a need for this,\u201d Curry stated. \u201cEmployees need to be up to speed on how these tools work and what they can do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The university\u2019s announcement comes as AI has started becoming more widely <\/span>implemented<\/span> in\u00a0 the U.S. healthcare sector. An American Medical Association (AMA) <\/span>survey<\/span> released in March notably found that over 80% of U.S. physicians utilize AI tools professionally.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAI has quickly become part of everyday medical practice,\u201d AMA CEO and Executive Vice President John Whyte said in a statement. \u201cPhysicians see real promise in its ability to support clinical decisions and cut down on administrative burden. But as this technology advances, it is critical that augmented intelligence be designed to enhance\u2014not replace\u2014physicians.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
