She is first answering to an alleged immigration violation, a count that applies to any foreigner accused of breaking the law inside Myanmar, the Associated Press (AP) reported, citing a lawyer familiar with the case. A murder conviction is reportedly far graver. Myanmar law sets a 10-year-to-life term for general murder, but defendants face potential execution when courts rule there is evidence of premeditation, severe cruelty, or\u00a0 according to The Thaiger.<\/p>\n<p> <!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_2 --> <\/p>\n<p>Riva was raised in East Norwich, New York, according to The Times of London. He built his career fighting international organized crime and held postings in Suriname and East Timor before Yangon. While based in Paramaribo, Suriname\u2019s capital, he served as an assistant regional security officer and Diplomatic Security Service special agent. Special agents target passport and visa fraud along with transnational crime, according to the State Department website. Mourners gathered for his funeral in Oyster Bay, New York, on June 13, multiple outlets reported.
