James Talarico, a former public school teacher who is currently a Presbyterian seminarian,\u00a0defeated Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the March 3 primary for the party\u2019s nomination in the race for Cornyn\u2019s seat. During the Lone Star State Democrats\u2019 party convention, one Texas speaker proudly embraced several lines of attack aimed at Talarico by critics. <strong>(RELATED: Pro-Gun Groups, GOP Lawmakers And Trump All Want To Make Right To Carry A Reality\u2014But They Can\u2019t Agree How)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey say that James is trans \u2014 we\u2019re all trans. When they say James is a gay, tofu-eating vegan, we\u2019re all gay, tofu-eating vegans!\u201d Bay City Councilman Ben Flores, the Democratic nominee for Texas Land Commissioner, said. \u201cAnd when they say James is going to hell, we\u2019ll say we\u2019re all going to hell!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> <!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_2 --> <\/p>\n<p>Talarico\u2019s dietary habits came under scrutiny when he ordered potato, egg, and cheese tacos while visiting a taco stand with former President Barack Obama in May 2026. Talarico has denied allegations he is vegan, with a spokesperson posting a photo of the candidate eating a turkey leg.<\/p>\n<p>Talarico has also been a staunch defender of child sex-change procedures, claiming in 2022 that they were not child abuse. Even on this floor today, a member tried to justify a hateful amendment in the name of God\u2019s law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, let\u2019s talk about that,\u201d Talarico continued. \u201cThe first two lines of the Bible, the first two lines of Genesis, use two different Hebrew words to describe God. One is the masculine Hebrew noun for divinity, the second is the feminine Hebrew noun for spirit. God is both masculine and feminine and everything in between.
