In 2025, the Supreme Court that Maryland parents have a right to opt their elementary-aged-students out of LGBTQ+ storybook lessons in school on the basis of religious freedom. However, since then, many taxpayer-funded primary schools throughout the country have continued to make books with heavily scrutinized sexual and political themes available to children.<\/p>\n

Here are five books elementary schools in the U.S. are offering students.<\/p>\n

\u201cSex Is a Funny Word\u201d \u2014Boulder Valley School District, 5th grade supplemental <\/b>health<\/b> education learning material<\/strong>
<\/h3>\n

A children\u2019s comic book that goes beyond the classic \u201csex talk\u201d for kids, \u201cSex Is a Funny Word\u201d features the transgender, \u201clesbian, gay, and bisexual experience as well as gender creative and gender-nonconforming children,\u201d according to the book\u2019s website. The children\u2019s sex education book covers, among other topics, \u201ccrushes, love, and sexy feelings,\u201d and \u201cbirthsex, gender identity, and gender roles.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

An educational book for 8-10 year olds about bodies, gender, and sexuality, the book includes \u201cchildren and families of all makeups, orientations, and gender identities,\u201d according to the website. It also includes drawings of male and female genitalia.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This book is listed on Boulder Valley School District\u2019s website under supplemental elementary health \u201cBoard of Education Adopted Learning Materials.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boulder Valley School District did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis Is Our Rainbow: 16 Stories of Her, Him, Them, and Us\u201d <\/strong><\/span><\/b>\u2014 <\/b>New York City Public Schools, 3rd \u2013 5th grade Pride Month Suggested Reading<\/strong>
<\/h3>\n

An LGBTQIA+ anthology with stories following characters of various sexual orientations. One story revolves around a young girl who \u201cnavigates a crush on her friend\u2019s mom,\u201d according to the overview of the book. In another story, two transgender kids meet online, and one kid helps the other come out to her parents.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In one story, the main character goes by e\/em pronouns, according to a Stand with Trans book review. The anthology has \u201cqueer fantasy, historical, and contemporary stories,\u201d according to the overview.<\/p>\n

The New York City Public Schools\u2019 website lists this anthology under the elementary Pride Month summer reading list. \u201cNot My Idea: A Book About Whiteness\u201d <\/b>\u2014<\/b> Bancroft Elementary School, Washington, D.C. Public School, available in school library<\/b>
<\/h3>\n

In this picture book, a white child sees a white police officer shoot an unarmed black person while watching the news. The child then sees coverage of a rally in response to the shooting and curiously goes to the library to learn about white supremacy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI made a book that centers the problem of racism in whiteness,\u201d the author says in a video trailer of the book.<\/p>\n

The book reveals how white children can seek justice when \u201cpower and privilege\u201d factor into their lives.<\/p>\n

\u201cRacism is a white person problem,\u201d a child is heard reading from the book in the video. The book helps to assist children \u201cpast defensiveness,\u201d according to Goodreads.<\/p>\n

This book was found on the school\u2019s library catalog database as available at the elementary school.<\/p>\n

Bancroft Elementary School did not respond to the DCNF\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Aidan Became A Brother<\/strong>\u201d \u2014<\/strong><\/b><\/span> Fargo Public Elementary Schools, available in school libraries<\/b>
<\/h3>\n

The book revolves around Aidan, a biologically female transgender-identifying child, who is going to have a new sibling soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Aidan was born, everyone thought he was a girl. His parents gave him a pretty name, his room looked like a girl\u2019s room, and he wore clothes that other girls liked wearing,\u201d the Amazon summary of the book reads. \u201cAfter he realized he was a trans boy, Aidan and his parents fixed the parts of life that didn\u2019t fit anymore, and he settled happily into his new life.\u201d<\/p>\n

This book was found on the school\u2019s library catalog database as available at the elementary school.<\/p>\n

Fargo Public Schools told the DCNF that is \u201cdoes not have any comment or information to you provide you for your story.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAntiracist Baby\u201d \u2014<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>Maria Baldwin Elementary School, Cambridge Public Schools, available in <\/b>school library<\/b>
<\/h3>\n

Toward its beginning, this book claims, \u201c[b]abies are taught to be racist or antiracist \u2014 <\/strong><\/span><\/b>there\u2019s no neutrality.\u201d The book then walks through nine steps Antiracist Baby learns \u201cto make equality a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n

Step seven is to \u201cconfess when being racist,\u201d because confessing racist ideas fights racism. The book \u201cempowers parents and children to uproot racism in our society and in ourselves,\u201d according to the book\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

This book was found on the school\u2019s library catalog database as available at the elementary school.<\/p>\n
