Republican Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell\u2019s staffers disclosed no new information about the senator\u2019s health Tuesday despite his hospitalization for several weeks.<\/p>\n

McConnell was hospitalized on June 14 after paramedics found him unconscious inside his Washington, D.C., residence and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for a \u201ccardiac arrest.\u201d A spokesperson for McConnell told the Daily Caller News Foundation that McConnell is \u201cworking closely with his staff\u201d as he remained in the hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cSenator McConnell appreciates the outpouring of support he\u2019s receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital. The Senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session,\u201d a spokesperson told the DCNF.<\/p>\n

A call went out at 8:36 a.m. on June 14 for an \u201cunconscious\u201d person at McConnell\u2019s address, according to an EMS dispatch call released Wednesday. An Advanced Life Support crew arrived and identified the emergency as a \u201ccardiac arrest.\u201d<\/p>\n

Senate Majority Leader John Thune told the DCNF on June 15 that McConnell was \u201cdialed in\u201d on their conference\u2019s legislative calls and sounded good on the phone. Other senators said they had not received any updates on McConnell\u2019s condition.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany of us aren\u2019t speaking about Mitch McConnell\u2019s condition because we know nothing about his condition,\u201d Republican Utah Sen. Mike Lee said Tuesday.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

McConnell\u2019s office said in a\u00a0 statement Thursday that he continued to \u201cimprove\u201d and was \u201cworking closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session.\u201d Neighbors of McConnell have reportedly not seen anyone at the home since McConnell\u2019s hospitalization, according to journalist Desiree Townsend.<\/p>\n

McConnell\u2019s wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, traveled to China during her husband\u2019s hospital stay. His youngest daughter, Porter, deactivated her social media account while speculation arose about her father\u2019s health.<\/p>\n

The elderly senator faced several health issues in the past. He was hospitalized in February for flu-like symptoms and was reportedly in the intensive care unit (ICU) from Feb. 2 to Feb. 10. Staffers were frequently seen assisting McConnell while walking around Capitol Hill.<\/p>\n

McConnell fell in the basement of the Russell Senate Office building in October 2025 while a reporter blocked him from accessing the railing while peppering him with questions about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He suffered a concussion from a March 2023 fall and sustained minor injuries in another fall in December 2024, prompting him to be\u00a0confined\u00a0to a wheelchair at the time.<\/p>\n

The former majority leader experienced two on-camera freezing episodes that summer.<\/p>\n

McConnell announced in December 2024 he would step down as the Senate\u2019s Republican leader after serving in the role for nearly two decades. He also\u00a0decided in February 2025 he would not seek reelection after his current term expires in January 2027. \u00a0Republican Kentucky Rep. Andy Barr won\u00a0the Kentucky Senate GOP primary race in May and is favored to win in November to replace McConnell.<\/p>\n
