Parents should never have to wonder whether their kids\u2019 school employs and protects sexual predators,\u201d Department of Education (ED) Secretary Linda McMahon said in a statement. \u201cSchools that receive federal funding have a duty to protect students, report sexual misconduct honestly, and follow the law.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_2 --> <\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThrough this initiative, we are holding school districts accountable because every child deserves to learn in a safe environment free from sexual abuse and harassment,\u201d she continued.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>ED did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p><span>Sexual predators in U.S. schools \u201cdepend on insti<\/span><span>tutional silence and complacency,\u201d McMahon  Friday in a guidance letter sent to educational institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_3 --> <\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSuch silence is not only a moral failure but also <\/span><span>violates federal law designed to protect our most defenseless class of citizens\u2014our <\/span><span>children,\u201d the letter states. \u201cTeachers\u2019 unions\u2019 demonstrated commitment to shield their members <\/span><span>from disciplinary action for gross misconduct cannot trump basic moral and legal re<\/span><span>sponsibilities to students and families.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/hometransferguide.com\/?p=3235\">Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Their Children Visit With King Charles For First Time In Four Years<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>The letter also claims that the department \u201cwill fully enforce federal law and employ every <\/span><span>resource at its disposal to protect children from sexual predators.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThose schools that <\/span><span>allow sexual misconduct to occur risk the termination of applicable federal assis<\/span><span>tance provided by the federal government,\u201d McMahon\u2019s letter adds. \u201cThis epidemic of nationwide sexual <\/span><span>abuse in our schools must end.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In May, ED announced it had<span> opened a Title IX probe into the Los Angeles Unified School District, alleging that the district \u201c<\/span><span>appears to be protecting sexual predators at the expense of its students.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A 2023  from the Defense of Freedom Institute (DFI) alleges that local education agencies (LEAs) in the U.S. \u201c<\/span><span>often\u201d act \u201cin concert with the local teacher union leaders, conceals sexual abuse by <\/span><span>permitting accused employees to resign and move to a new school or district rather <\/span><span>than face investigation and possible punishment\u2014a practice called \u2018passing the trash.&#8217;\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cLEAs and unions use collective bargaining and nondisclosure agreements to conceal <\/span><span>the records of abusive employees, and union leaders wield their powerful influence i<\/span><span>n many state legislatures to stymie legislation that would hold public employees <\/span><span>accountable for their sexual misconduct in schools,\u201d according to DFI\u2019s report.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>There was a 55% surge in sexual violence incidents in U.S. K-12 public schools from the 2015-2016 school year to the 2017-2018 academic year, according to a 2024 report published in <\/span><span>Taylor &amp; Francis Online.<\/span><span><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>All content created by the Daily Caller News Foundation, an independent and nonpartisan newswire service, is available without charge to any legitimate news publisher that can provide a large audience.
