In light of the Supreme Court ruling upholding birthright citizenship, Republican Texas Rep. Chip Roy is looking to overhaul legal immigration in America, the Daily Caller learned.<\/p>

Roy sent a letter to members of President Donald Trump\u2019s administration Thursday requesting the total number of legal immigrants who have come to the United States since the beginning of the term, according to text obtained by the Caller. Roy argued it is crucial to maintain \u201csustainable\u201d immigration levels in light of the \u201cegregious\u201d ruling to \u201censure they do not adversely affect the American people\u2019s economic opportunities, cultural and social cohesion, or security.\u201d (RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Chip Roy Moves To Make Trump\u2019s \u2018Vulnerable\u2019 Border Policies Permanent)<\/strong><\/p>

\u201cSecuring our country from mass migration means addressing both illegal and legal immigration,\u201d Roy told the Caller. \u201cAt a time when housing, schools, healthcare, and other public services are under increasing pressure, Congress needs a full accounting of how many legal immigrants have entered the United States since the start of this Administration.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cThe American people deserve transparency so we can ensure our immigration system puts American workers, taxpayers, and communities first.\u201d<\/p>

Roy also noted the massive influx of illegal and legal immigration, with the overall migrant population totaling 53.3 million or 15.8 percent of the American population as of 2025. Because of these record numbers, foreign nationals have flooded the American labor market, many of whom fail to assimilate and, in some cases, even have \u201ccriminal backgrounds or subversive ideologies.\u201d<\/p>

\"WASHINGTON,<\/figure>\n\n<\/div>

\u201cUnderstandably, our nation, being one of great opportunities, has attracted millions from across the globe for decades,\u201d Roy said. \u201cHowever, it\u2019s incumbent on the federal government to set reasonable limits or reductions in immigration to ensure that American communities are not overwhelmed by immigration, even if it\u2019s lawful.\u201d<\/p>\u201cFurther, nearly half of the illegal alien population is a direct result of legal immigration, as 40 percent of illegal aliens entered the country lawfully on a visa but failed to honor their agreed-upon departure date, becoming visa overstayers,\u201d Roy added. \u201cThis alarming data point should be factored in when considering legal immigration policy.\u201d (EXCLUSIVE: GOP Rep Introduces Bill Banning Foreign Adversaries From Buying American Homes)<\/strong><\/p>

Roy acknowledged the many positive changes made during Trump\u2019s second term but requested more data to codify the administration\u2019s directives and further reduce legal immigration. The data Roy is requesting includes the number of aliens who have been issued Lawful Permanent Resident status and the number of aliens who have been issued nonimmigrant visas since January 20, 2025.<\/p>

\u201cCongress obtaining data on the number of individuals we\u2019ve imported, permanently or temporarily, is a first step in advancing immigration legislation that puts American interests first and builds on the Trump administration\u2019s commendable restriction efforts.\u201d<\/p>
