{"id":3377,"date":"2026-07-16T09:35:41","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T09:35:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hometransferguide.com\/?p=3377"},"modified":"2026-07-16T09:35:41","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T09:35:41","slug":"sham-hospices-fake-skin-grafts-hhs-watchdogs-report-exposes-billions-in-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hometransferguide.com\/?p=3377","title":{"rendered":"Sham Hospices, Fake Skin Grafts: HHS Watchdog\u2019s Report Exposes Billions In Fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_1 --> <\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Department of Health and Human Services\u2019 federal watchdog announced Friday in its semiannual report to Congress that it recently generated billions in projected recoveries and cost savings amid the Trump administration\u2019s ongoing healthcare fraud crackdown.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/hometransferguide.com\/?p=3375\">SCOTT MOREFIELD: A City Built By Giants Is Now Staffed By Strangers<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>HHS<\/span>\u2019 Office of Inspector General (OIG) <span>said<\/span> in its newly released  that it generated a total \u201cmonetary impact\u201d of $5.56 billion and also excluded 1,212 individuals and entities from participating in federal health programs during the 6-month period ending on March 31. <span><strong>(RELATED: Americans\u2019 Trust In Federal Health Agencies Has Plunged Since 2025, New Poll Shows)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring this period, OIG remained at the forefront of efforts to fight fraud, waste, and abuse in HHS programs,\u201d Inspector General Thomas March Bell said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFederal programs are designed to serve the people who rely on them most, including seniors, people with disabilities, low-income families, and individuals struggling with addiction,\u201d Bell continued. \u201cFraudsters put these lifelines at risk by stealing taxpayer funds that are meant to support essential care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bell added that HHS\u2019 OIG is \u201cdetermined to hold bad actors accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_2 --> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNotable actions include convictions of individuals running sham hospices, identification of improper payments and vulnerabilities in emerging risk areas such as Medicaid payments for autism services, and uncovering gaps in foster care systems that contributed to failures to track and find missing children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The OIG report also notes that its investigations of healthcare fraud and abuse across the U.S. during the six-month period resulted in 317 total criminal actions, including criminal convictions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn one of the largest telemarketing Medicare fraud verdicts, the CEO of Power Mobility Doctor Rx, LLC, a health care software company, was sentenced to 15 years in prison and ordered to pay $452 million in restitution after being convicted of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and other related crimes,\u201d according to the report. \u201cHe orchestrated a telemedicine and durable medical equipment fraud scheme worth more than $1 billion by targeting Medicare beneficiaries with misleading mailers, calls from offshore call centers, and sham telehealth consults to produce medically unnecessary orders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_3 --> <\/p>\n<p>The report also highlights a couple who allegedly \u201cran a nationwide scheme that targeted Medicare beneficiaries, many in hospice care, by using untrained sales staff to generate orders for medically unnecessary, oversized bioengineered skin grafts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/hometransferguide.com\/?p=3373\">Trump Wants Lindsey Graham\u2019s Sister Appointed To Replace Her Deceased Brother In Senate<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey also accepted hundreds of millions of dollars in illegal kickbacks and directed nurse practitioners to apply unwarranted grafts,\u201d according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>The couple\u2019s scheme resulted in over $1.2 billion in fraudulent claims submitted to federal healthcare programs, the report states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOIG\u2019s innovative, multidisciplinary workforce includes law enforcement agents, auditors, evaluators, attorneys, program analysts, and data analysts,\u201d Bell said. \u201cOIG is unwavering in its commitment to root out fraud, waste, and abuse, and promote the economy, efficiency, and effectiveness of HHS programs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report\u2019s release comes as the Trump administration has been <span>moving<\/span> to crack down on <span>healthcare<\/span> fraud and waste this year. The White House <span>said<\/span> in a May 29 news release that its anti-fraud task force is \u201cmoving at unprecedented speed and ferocity to root out the waste, abuse, and criminal exploitation of government programs that have drained billions from hardworking taxpayers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will find fraud,\u201d HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. <span>vowed<\/span> in a June 23 X post. \u201cWe will stop it.
