Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban said Monday that employers can use artificial intelligence tools to ensure healthcare contracts cannot be \u201cused to take advantage\u201d of them.<\/p>\n

Cuban<\/span> suggested during an interview<\/span> on the \u201cDigital Health Heavyweights\u201d podcast released Monday that employers can use large language models (LLMs) such as Anthropic\u2019s Claude to examine huge healthcare contracts and highlight areas where they are potentially overpaying. LLMs refer to AI systems that can understand and produce human language by processing sizable amounts of text data, according<\/span> to IBM. \u201cYour [pharmacy benefit manager (PBM)] contract, your insurance contract, run them all. Every healthcare contract you have run through Claude or whatever, and just say, \u2018Where am I getting ripped off?\u2019\u201d Cuban<\/span> said during the interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlways on spread pricing, the price they pay the pharmacy versus what they charge you \u2026 versus when you get your rebates back whether or not they retain any rebates. They\u2019ll do things like they\u2019ll classify rebates differently from fees so what they\u2019ll say is, \u2018Yeah, this is what a rebate is, but it only applies to brand medications, doesn\u2019t apply to specialty [medications],\u2019\u201d Cuban added.<\/p>\n

Some experts have warned<\/span> that PBMs can inflate<\/span> employer healthcare costs. Some PBMs use spread pricing, where they generate revenue by charging employers a higher rate for prescription drugs than what they pay to reimburse pharmacies for those drugs, according<\/span> to SmithRx.<\/p>\n

Cuban went on to say that LLMs can help users \u201cgo through all the details\u201d of huge healthcare contracts.<\/p>\n
