{"id":3700,"date":"2026-07-22T18:06:59","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T18:06:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hometransferguide.com\/?p=3700"},"modified":"2026-07-22T18:06:59","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T18:06:59","slug":"professor-testifies-against-taxpayer-funded-smithsonians-alleged-anti-america-agenda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hometransferguide.com\/?p=3700","title":{"rendered":"Professor Testifies Against Taxpayer-Funded Smithsonian\u2019s Alleged Anti-America Agenda"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_1 --> <\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A Hillsdale College professor testified before the a House subcommittee about the alleged anti-American agenda of the National Museum of American History.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/hometransferguide.com\/?p=3698\">ROOKE: I Helped Other Women Create More Babies While Drinking Dirty Martinis<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Matthew Spalding testified Tuesday before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform\u2019s Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency about \u201cefforts by the National Museum of American History (NMAH) to replace the story of America\u2019s past with an activist ideology aimed at transforming its future,\u201d according to a Hillsdale College press release. <\/p>\n<p>\u201c[T]he National Museum of American History is no longer the nation\u2019s museum of American history,\u201d Spalding, the dean of the Van Andel Graduate School of Government at Hillsdale College and professor of Constitutional Government, said at the committee\u2019s hearing, according to the release.<\/p>\n<p>The hearing, titled \u201cRewriting American History: Examining the Smithsonian\u2019s Efforts to Reshape the Past,\u201d examined efforts by the taxpayer-funded Washington, D.C. museum \u201cand the broader Smithsonian Institution to promote divisive, inappropriate, and factually inaccurate programming on U.S. history,\u201d according to the Committee\u2019s press release. The hearing follows the July 4 release of a 162-page report from the White House about NMAH\u2019s failures, titled \u201cSaving America\u2019s Story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The  found that the NMAH leadership \u201chas explicitly adopted an ideological framework that no longer treats the American story as a shared national inheritance to be taught or celebrated, but as a political instrument to divide, dispirit, and discourage our citizens.\u201d <strong>(RELATED: Smithsonian Museum Features Explicit And Trans Exhibits, White House Report Finds)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_2 --> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe real crime here, premeditated and followed through, is that America\u2019s story \u2014 the well-established narrative of main characters and key events long at the center of American self-understanding \u2014 has been so reframed, jettisoned, decentered, deconstructed, and \u2018problematized\u2019 that it no longer exists in recognizable form,\u201d Spalding said during the hearing.<\/p>\n<p>Two exhibits at the NMAH, \u201cAmerican Democracy: A Great Leap of Faith\u201d and \u201cMany Voices, One Nation,\u201d specifically highlight the social change the museum is hoping to make, according to both the White House report and Spalding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmerican Democracy: A Great Leap of Faith\u201d references the Declaration of Independence, but then claims that \u201cAmericans also inherited a belief in social hierarchy and institutions that perpetuated inequality,\u201d according to the report. \u201cWhile the exhibit does not offer a history of how America came to create the Declaration of Independence, it does show \u201cthe Nation\u2019s failures as a democracy and popular resistance to alleged systemic flaws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_3 --> <\/p>\n<p>One part of the exhibit features the words \u201cslavery,\u201d \u201cprivilege,\u201d and \u201crights of women\u201d in large print, with \u201cfree press,\u201d citizenship,\u201d and \u201crights of man\u201d in much smaller print, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201d<\/em>Our work is governed by the Smithsonian standards of scholarship, accuracy, independence and nonpartisanship. The museum does not take sides in America\u2019s political debates. We preserve and document the evidence of American life in all of its breadth, so that the public can encounter the past and draw their own conclusions,<em>\u201d <\/em>Anthea Hartig director of NMAH said at the hearing.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cMany Voices, One Nation\u201d exhibit claims that \u201c[t]here is no single American culture, language, or narrative,\u201d and fails to provide a coherent narrative of American history, the report notes. The key figures of early American history are set aside, and the key events are decontextualized to avoid the presentation of a coherent or chronological story by which those individuals and events are central,\u201d Spalding  at the hearing.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Gonzalez, Senior Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, also testified about the failures of MNAH and its leadership. Subcommittee Chairman Tim Burchett and Texas Rep. Brandon Gill notably questioned Hartig.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmerica\u2019s history belongs neither to liberals nor conservatives,\u201d Spalding testified to the committee. \u201cIt belongs to the American people. It should be told, warts and all, so that visitors understand the basic chronological narrative and see how the nation got to where it is today. Nothing integral to that history should be erased or whitewashed. But social transformation should not be the objective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many changes came to the museum when Hartig became its director in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Spalding warned about the changes of the strategic plan in the Museum in recent years. The previous plan had the mission of exploring \u201cthe infinite richness and complexity of American history\u201d and helping \u201cpeople understand the past in order to make sense of the present and shape a more humane future,\u201d but the new plan\u2019s mission, established under Hartig, is about \u201c[e]mpowering people to create a more just and compassionate future by exploring, preserving, and sharing the complexity of our past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The professor noted that the new mission replaced \u201cAmerican History\u201d with \u201cour past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe nation was founded on the great paradox of a dynamic form of republican democracy based on the supremacy of white, landed men and the institution of chattel slavery. What then is our task?\u201d he asked. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the National Museum of American History, we work to reframe the traditional celebratory narrative of U.S. history for visitors to our museum and digital spaces. Hosting and facilitating dynamic public programming and national reckonings is critical for us to help all Americans make sense of these tragically difficult times,\u201d Spalding stated. He referred to Hartig\u2019s words in a May 2020 press release, titled in part \u201cIn Slavery\u2019s Shadow: George Floyd and American Legacies,\u201d claiming it reveals the what the director\u2019s objective was from the beginning. <\/p>\n<p>The NMAH established The Center for Restorative History in February 2026 to address \u201cthe needs of historically harmed communities,\u201d Spalding noted from Center\u2019s own explanatory document. These communities are \u201cblack, indigenous, and other people of color,\u201d and \u201clesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and more,\u201d and the root cause of these harms is \u201csystemic oppression.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not a history based on established facts and known reality. Indeed, it is not history at all.
