Unauthorized occupants make renovation projects difficult, delaying crews from coming onto the property by presenting leases that owners and property managers do not recognize, Mikey told Fox Baltimore.<\/p>\n

He now markets his service as \u201cSquatter King Removal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMe and my wolves, we go above and beyond to get these houses back,\u201d Mikey told Fox Baltimore.<\/p>\n

\u201cPolice said we can\u2019t remove somebody, so lawfully, the only thing we can do is what we could do,\u201d Mikey said. His team cannot physically interact with the occupants; rather, he \u201cdescribes removing doors and windows, disrupting access to the building and creating conditions intended to persuade suspected squatters to leave,\u201d according to Fox Baltimore. <\/p>\n

Mikey claims his company is within the law. His crew never physically removes or assaults the people, and he is hired by property managers and owners who want access to their building, he told Fox Baltimore. The company\u2019s practices are in a legal grey area. Maryland usually requires the use of the court system to remove squatters from residences. Fox Baltimore reported that \u201cFrom boarding squatters inside properties to towing their vehicles, and even using bear spray and smoke bombs as defensive measures when entering properties occupied by purported unauthorized residents, Mikey said his team is determined to resolve a property owner\u2019s squatter problem.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a text Mikey sent to a potential customer, he said \u201cI neverrrr guarantee we going get someone out but I damn sure can guarantee my wolves not going stop once they get $$,\u201d according to Fox Baltimore. <\/p>\n

Mikey, a former convict and drug user, started his trash removal business about six years ago, according to the report. He worked on demolition, cleaning, and eviction jobs. Gradually, he began to see the major problem that squatters played in his work, according to Fox Baltimore. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe would get at least 20 cleanouts and only do one,\u201d Mikey told Fox Baltimore. \u201cAll these people showing fake leases. The owners not knowing who they is. The property managers not knowing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eventually, Mikey recognized the market and began to market a specific squatter removal service. His service started at $2,000 and increased with difficulty, number of occupants, and property differences, according to Fox Baltimore.<\/p>\n

Squatters have become a common problem throughout Maryland, with one Maryland lawmaker describing a \u201cmultimillion-dollar issue here in the state that we need to address,\u201d in a 2025 interview with Fox Baltimore.<\/p>\n

In February, University of Maryland professor Ze Wang returned from winter vacation to find his home overtaken by squatters. When asked to present any form of paperwork, the squatters presented a fake lease document. However, in Maryland, \u201cWhen someone presents a lease, even one a homeowner insists is fraudulent, police typically treat the situation as a civil landlord-tenant dispute rather than criminal trespass or fraud,\u201d Fox News Baltimore reported.<\/p>\n

It took nearly two months for the squatters to leave. When Wang returned to the building, he found extensive damages costing over $80,000 to repair, according to Fox Baltimore.<\/p>\n

In May 2026, Maryland Democrat Gov. Wes Moore signed two bills aimed at addressing the state\u2019s squatter problems. One bill cracks down on online squatting rings, and another makes fraudulent leases a felony. <\/p>\n
