Republican Louisiana Senator John Kennedy said during a Sunday interview on \u201cFace the Nation\u201d that the United States should stay the course in Iran even as most Americans want the war to end. <\/p>\n

Pulling the U.S. out of Iran would be a \u201chuge, huge mistake,\u201d Kennedy told CBS News\u2019s Margaret Brennan. Kennedy had, however, criticized Secretary of War Pete Hegseth over a $67 billion request to fund the war during a Senate hearing Tuesday. <\/p>\n

Brennan asked Kennedy whether the administration agreed to give him a \u201cclassified, detailed briefing\u201d on Iran. The senator did not elaborate, instead faulting the White House\u2019s public case for the war.<\/p>\n

\u201cI support the president in Iran. We all need to do a better job messaging,\u201d Kennedy said. Trump, however, \u201cexists loudly\u201d and \u201cis not always disciplined in his messaging,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not saying he should stop talking,\u201d Kennedy said. He called for Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine, Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe, and Hegseth to \u201c[go] out there, either in a speech or in a long press conference, to explain what\u2019s going on in Iran, why we went in, why we\u2019re still there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBernie wants to just come home. He wants to turn out the lights, make sure the cat\u2019s inside, and go to bed,\u201d Kennedy said. \u201cThat would be a huge, huge mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n
