For example, 78% of Zoomers surveyed said that someone\u2019s salary will determine whether they can find \u201ctrue love,\u201d versus 32% of Boomer respondents, The New York Post reported July 28. This comes as the average age of marriage  to around 31 for men and 28 for women in 2025. In the 1960s, this was around 23 and 21, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>However, Heritage Foundation research assistant Liana Graham told the Daily Caller News Foundation that financial problems are only one component of why Zoomers are delaying marriage. <strong>(RELATED: America\u2019s Social Life Still Hasn\u2019t Recovered From Covid)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"679\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FDailyCaller%2Fposts%2Fpfbid02FnnNXsAum3pQK6BTKEC3V9E1iwynehUrzXf4DkBsm5zEHvyTEc2kAExjm8LLRzjel&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" width=\"500\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile costs have risen, so have economic standards and expectations going into marriage,\u201d Graham said. \u201cThe \u2018cornerstone\u2019 view of marriage\u2014a framework that views marriage as a foundation for adult life\u2014has been largely replaced with a \u2018capstone\u2019 view which sees marriage as a final step on the road to success.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Graham said that this capstone view raises the \u201cbar of entry for early marriage\u201d by combining changing economic realities \u2014 like the average cost of a home \u2014 with changing cultural expectations \u2014 like homeownership being a prerequisite for marriage.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_2 --> <\/p>\n<p>The median sales price of a house exceeds $400,000, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Additionally, only 38.3% of Zoomers bought their first home by age 25, compared to 42.5% of Gen Xers, and 44.4% of Boomers, according to a January study by Redfin. <strong>(RELATED: Higher Percentage Of Haitians On Temp Visas Own Homes Than Gen Z)<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1>The War Of The Sexes<\/h1>\n<p>The growing ideological divide between men and women is another \u201csignificant component\u201d to Generation Z\u2019s declining marriage rates, Graham said.<\/p>\n<p>Harris-voting women ranked getting married at 11 out of 13 and having children at 12 out of 13 as a priority, according to a 2025 survey by NBC. Meanwhile, Trump-voting men ranked marriage as priority number 4 and having children as 1.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_3 --> <\/p>\n<p>Narratives about the opposite sex on social media may be fueling this divide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMainstream feminism often peddles a \u2018one-size-fits-all\u2019 message that frames marriage and family as opposed to women\u2019s flourishing, especially on social media,\u201d Graham said. \u201cWhile social media messaging can become extreme\u2014framing men and marriage as \u2018the problem\u2019\u2014a lot of the influence seems to be more subtle than that: messages that young and early marriage is na\u00efve, wasteful, and risky.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Graham warns that social media-driven risk aversion isn\u2019t just scaring women away from early marriage, but men too through involuntary celibate (incel) culture \u2014 an online subculture of men who express an inability to form romantic attachments toward women over various grievances with them.<\/p>\n<p>Around 63% of men and 34% of women ages 18-29 reported being single as of 2023, according to the Pew Research Center. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/hometransferguide.com\/?p=4071\">Video Shows Good Samaritan Try To Take Out Shooter Who Allegedly Killed 3, Wounded 7 At Fast Food Restaurant<\/a><\/p>\n<p> \u201cIncel culture taps into the same kind of messaging, marketing marriage as a trap for men that fails to benefit them as much as it benefits women,\u201d Graham said.<\/p>\n<p>Graham said that dating apps are another form of social media making it harder for men and women to commit to long-term relationships by fostering a culture that \u201cde-prioritizes in-person interactions in exchange for superficial online encounters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDating apps often invoke a paradox of choice: too many options might lead to decision fatigue,\u201d Graham said. \u201cSwiping through a seemingly never-ending catalog of potential suitors can therefore cause decision paralysis and reduced commitment. While this puts men at a disadvantage if they outnumber women on the app, the paradox of choice affects both men and women.\u201d<\/p>\n<h1>Uncle Sam As Your Wingman<\/h1>\n<p>Graham said that cultural and policy solutions can help reduce the \u201creal and perceived\u201d risks of marriage to Zoomers. <strong>(RELATED: It\u2019s Easier Than Ever To Trap Young People In Debt. What Is The White House Doing About It?)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the policy side, lawmakers can consider solutions such as those offered in Heritage\u2019s special report, <em>Saving America by Saving the Family. <\/em>These suggestions fit within three general categories: stop punishing family formation, restoring the American dream, and actively supportingmarriage and working families,\u201d Graham said. <\/p>\n<p>The January report suggests axing marriage penalties in the welfare system and tax code, promoting family and marriage tax credits, and establishing Newlywed Early Starter Trust (NEST) accounts.<\/p>\n<p>NEST accounts are a proposed extension to the Trump Accounts aiming to provide individuals a $2,500 deposit in the form of a tax-free bond that\u2019d be dispersed three years after marriage for those who marry before the average age of marriage, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>However, Graham warned that while the government has a role in supporting marriage and the family \u2014 like bringing the costs of homes down, policy alone won\u2019t provide the solution to declining marriage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf foremost importance is correcting cultural messaging, common on social media, that frames early marriage as a trap, mistake, or a \u2018waste\u2019 of a man or woman\u2019s talents and resources,\u201d Graham said. \u201cSimilarly, messaging that frames autonomy and independence as essential to flourishing are corrosive to a union view of marriage, which emphasizes that husband and wife enjoy a shared identity, project, and future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis requires mutual dependence and vulnerability, which are foreign and fearful concepts to an \u2018anxious generation\u2019 like Gen-Z.
