Basin is running to unseat incumbent Democratic Rep. Jill Tokuda. <strong>(RELATED: \u2018Reformed\u2019 Ex-Con Turned Democrat Lawmaker Picks Up Yet Another Criminal Charge)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Police said the incident began when Basin threatened the bystander, who had asked him to turn down his music, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Basin allegedly suggested he had a firearm and threatened to shoot the man\u2019s wife. A physical altercation ensued, during which Basin allegedly picked up a knife, using it to threaten other beachgoers before throwing it into the ocean. <\/p>\n<p>The altercation appeared to end when the 61-year-old man knocked out Basin with a single punch to the face, video posted to social media shows.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_2 --> <\/p>\n<p>Police previously arrested Basin for incidents involving assault and property damage, according to Hawaii News Now. Locals have also taken out restraining orders against him, the outlet noted. <\/p>\n<p>Maui County Council member Thomas Cook said he filed a restraining order against Basin after he interrupted a council meeting in May. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/hometransferguide.com\/?p=4106\">Tech Giants To Get First Look At Trump\u2019s Long-Awaited AI Framework<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cook alleged that Basin was \u201caggressive and confrontational\u201d and had \u201cthreatened violence against police\u201d and another council member, Hawaii News Now reported. <\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_3 --> <\/p>\n<p>Other reports alleged that Basin \u201cbrandished a weapon in a county office building in a confrontation with county employees\u201d in May. <\/p>\n<p>Basin\u2019s campaign website calls on Hawaiians to urgently reject hatred and division and \u201cact with love.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAloha is the animating spirit of the change we need to make,\u201d the website says. \u201cHate and grievance motivate the political ecosystem of bad decisions and indecision. Replicating that will not produce the cooperation we need for things to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tokuda addressed the incident in a statement to Hawaii News Now. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cViolence has no place in our communities or in public service,\u201d she said. \u201cAnyone holding or seeking office, at any level of government, should be held to a higher standard.
