Sophie Cunningham traded her jersey for a bar top and belted out a Toby Keith anthem hours after helping the Indiana Fever beat the Dallas Wings.<\/p>\n

The guard turned up at Clayton\u2019s Country Bar in Indianapolis on Friday night following the Fever\u2019s 98-87 victory, according to Mediaite. Bar owner Clayton Anderson, a country singer holding a microphone and wearing a red Fever shirt, spotted Cunningham at the end of the bar and pulled her up to perform with him.<\/p>\n

Anderson introduced her to the crowd as \u201cAmerica\u2019s sweetheart, Sophie Cunningham,\u201d Mediaite reported, drawing a loud response from patrons. The pair then climbed onto the bar railing together and sang Keith\u2019s \u201cCourtesy of the Red, White & Blue\u201d as fans joined in. Cunningham played a minor role in the win itself, scoring five points, according to Sunday Guardian. Caitlin Clark carried Indiana with 29 points and 10 assists, and the result gave the Fever their third straight win. The team improved to 22-12 and climbed to fourth in the standings, ahead of the Atlanta Dream, Pro Football Network (PFN) reported.<\/p>\n

Video of the performance spread quickly across social media, where supporters praised Cunningham and called her a \u201cNational Treasure\u201d and \u201cAmerica\u2019s Sweetheart,\u201d according to PFN.<\/p>\n

The celebration landed during a tense stretch for the guard, who has drawn heavy attention since telling ESPN in July that she opposes transgender athletes competing against girls and women.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I\u2019m like, \u2018I never once said that,\u2019\u201d Cunningham told ESPN. \u201cI think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn\u2019t have to go against biological men.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her comments divided fans, with some backing her and others criticizing her, according to Mediaite. One opposing coach wore a shirt reading \u201cTrans Kids Belong\u201d in a jab at Cunningham, and she absorbed a hard hit to the head in a nationally televised game the following weekend.<\/p>\n
