The New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers each confirmed the death in statements Sunday, according to ESPN.<\/p>\n<p>His lasting legacy traces to July 17, 1974, when he tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow while pitching for the Dodgers, MLB.com reported. Dr. Frank Jobe reconstructed the joint in a procedure never before attempted on a pitcher, and the surgery now carries John\u2019s name. His six teams also included the Chicago White Sox, California Angels and Oakland Athletics, Sports Illustrated reported.
