The company released a poll that showed Hong, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), leading her then-opponent David Crowley by over 20 points. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMedian Strategies was created as a short-term social experiment examining how purported polling information could enter and spread through the political information ecosystem without independent verification,\u201d the company announced. <strong>(RELATED: Why Did Pollsters Get Michigan And Wisconsin Primaries So Wrong?)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After several polls indicated she held a strong lead, Hong lost the race by less than 1% in the Aug. 11 primary election. <\/p>\n<p>The group\u2019s fake data claimed that Democratic Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass led City Councilwoman Nithya Raman by nearly 12 percentage points, and claimed 16% of its respondents voted for former reality television personality Spencer Pratt, who was knocked out of the race in June.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_2 --> <\/p>\n<p>The Los Angeles Times first reported on the poll after reaching out to Median Strategies about their polling data. The mayor called for a criminal investigation. <\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_3 --> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny bad faith attempts to influence elections should be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,\u201d a spokesperson said. <\/p>\n<p>Bass\u2019 office and Median Strategies did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation\u2019s request for comment. <\/p>\n<p>Raman\u2019s campaign criticized Bass for not fact-checking the information before publicly posting its results. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is the latest example of an administration that too often struggles to get the basics right \u2014 from posting about a pothole repair before the pothole was fixed to repeatedly giving Boyle Heights residents a Lineage cleanup deadline that the company now disputes,\u201d Raman campaign spokesperson Liz Garcia said, according to ABC 7 Eyewitness News. \u201cAngelenos deserve a mayor who gets the facts right, communicates clearly, and does the work before announcing the result.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Wisconsin, several polls falsely indicated Hong held a 20-point lead over Crowley.
