Many government-run buildings left to decay have become uninhabitable, with collapsing concrete ceilings, exposed wires, and standing water rendering spaces unusable. <strong>(RELATED: Kash Patel Announces FBI Is Leaving J. Edgar Hoover Building)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is an act of the government which requires occupancy data to be submitted to us,\u201d Forst told the Caller. \u201cThe first submissions were in March, and agencies were required to meet a 60 percent agency-wide occupancy level. Not one agency in the federal government met it. Not one.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome is lying fallow. Some is just really unproductively used. And some is just not usable.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"315\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Q0nN_Obwqrg?si=dLykRDGDqqkZEl6L\" title=\"YouTube video player\" width=\"560\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>While the GSA directly oversees and manages the government\u2019s real estate portfolio, Forst also emphasized Congress\u2019 role in helping revive these buildings.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_2 --> <\/p>\n<p>The GSA estimates the government has $50 billion worth of delinquent maintenance, much of which Congress delays. The GSA currently must comply with a $3.96 million spending threshold under the Federal Buildings Fund (FBF). Brigance Dead At 56 Following ALS Battle<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201c$3.96 million is a tiny number given the scale of these buildings,\u201d Forst told the Caller. \u201cThe average time to get that approval, if we get it, is over 400 days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_3 --> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat our initiatives revolve around is not asking for a single dollar more than what we are already entitled to.\u201d <strong>(RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: JD Vance\u2019s Anti-Fraud Task Force Uncovers $6 Billion In Suspected Fraudulent Government Contracts)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Forst told the Caller that eliminating tedious committee approvals would allow the GSA to streamline much-needed renovation projects rather than letting the decay worsen, inevitably costing taxpayers more than it should. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis whole building was built in two years,\u201d Forst said of the GSA headquarters across the street from the White House. \u201cWhen you compare that to 400-plus days just to get a roof repair approved, there\u2019s a big disconnect.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThings will take as long as we let them.
