The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced Tuesday that the agency, alongside the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, has uncovered more than $13 billion in suspected fraud since beginning its work in March. <\/p>\n

Federal contractors are responsible for the suspected fraud. They were tracked down by GSA and the task force through governmentwide contracting data, public reporting and inspector general enforcement information, according to a press release. <\/p>\n

\u201cLet this serve as a warning to any bad actors thinking of stealing from the federal government: we will catch you, we will work with law enforcement to ensure your arrest, and we will do everything in our power to help recover every dollar you stole,\u201d GSA Administrator Edward C. Forst said in a statement. <\/p>\n

A few weeks into the creation, the task force and the GSA identified nearly $6.3 billion in government contracts that are going to potentially fraudulent businesses, the Daily Caller exclusively reported. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact that these taxpayer dollars went out without verifying if the contractors and vendors were even real or lawful businesses is a disgrace and yet another example of how the previous administration flouted basic anti-fraud guardrails,\u201d a senior White House official told the Caller at the time. <\/p>\n

The administration turned its attention to rooting out fraud in the government after YouTuber Nick Shirley exposed nearly a dozen Somali-run daycare centers in Minnesota that were not actually providing services. It installed an assistant attorney general devoted to the fraud effort who serves on the task force and reports directly to the vice president. The Daily Caller exclusively attended an event Assistant Attorney General Colin McDonald held in Columbia, South Carolina, in July. At the event, McDonald gathered more than 50 officials from the southeastern states including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and South Carolina to announce that they had discovered roughly $350 million in alleged fraud.<\/p>\n

As a result of the meeting, the seven states agreed to data-sharing agreements with the division that will give the DOJ access to \u201cpublicly available corporate registration and public benefits payment data held by these state agencies.\u201d <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cStopping all federal fraud requires the work of every federal agency, and the GSA has more than stepped up to the task,\u201d Fraud Task Force Executive Director Scott Brady said in a statement Tuesday. \u201cToday\u2019s announcement shows just how broken our federal procurement system was before President Donald Trump, Vice President Vance, and Administrator Forst.\u201d<\/p>\n
