Todd Blanche Lit the Fuse.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The state targeted the former county clerk and President Donald Trump ally based on political viewpoints when punishing her for leaking voting machine data in 2021, the Article III Project told the Department of Justice (DOJ) in a  obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation. Judge Matthew Barrett sentenced Peters to nine years behind bars in 2024 on felonies and misdemeanors for  with political allies to investigate alleged election fraud.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Colorado Gov. The group asked her team to investigate the involvement of Barrett, Democratic Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser, Republican Mesa County District Attorney Dan Rubinstein and Democratic Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold in the case, along with \u201cany and all other potential coconspirators.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_2 --> <\/p>\n<p>Colorado\u2019s appeals court ordered Peters to be , ruling that Barrett\u2019s judgment \u201cwas based in part on improper consideration of her exercise of her right to free speech.\u201d In a letter explaining Peters\u2019 commutation, Polis agreed with the court that Barrett \u201cshould not have considered those [political] beliefs relevant when imposing sentence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barrett, Griswold\u2019s office and Weiser\u2019s office did not respond to the DCNF\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/hometransferguide.com\/?p=900\">Giants\u2019 Jaxson Dart Reveals Why He Introduced Trump At Rally<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cClaims that Ms. Peters was denied her civil rights are difficult to reconcile with the record,\u201d Rubinstein told the DCNF. \u201cShe was indicted by a grand jury, which was selected before she committed her crimes, tried before an impartial jury that she selected, represented by counsel, afforded every constitutional protection guaranteed by our system, and convicted based on the evidence presented in open court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/10519169\/dailycaller_incontent_3 --> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Colorado Court of Appeals has already confirmed that she received a fair trial,\u201d Rubinstein said. \u201cWhile the Governor chose to reduce her sentence, that decision does not change the fact that she remains a convicted felon who was lawfully prosecuted and properly held accountable for her crimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Peters\u2019 legal team aims to have the Colorado Supreme Court overturn her convictions, The Denver Post reported.<\/p>\n<p>All content created by the Daily Caller News Foundation, an independent and nonpartisan newswire service, is available without charge to any legitimate news publisher that can provide a large audience.
