‘His Children Are Better Off Without Him’: Depraved Luigi Mangione Fans Defend Assassination Of Healthcare CEO Father
A trio of Luigi Mangione fangirls waiting outside the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse on Monday explained their vile views to the press.
“Fuck Brian Thompson. That’s all I’m gonna say. That’s all I want to say. Fuck Brian Thompson. Fuck his mom. Fuck that lady who said something on Inside Edition. I said, I said what I said. I don’t give a flying fuck,” said a woman who identified herself to The New York Times as “Ashley.” The woman appeared to be wearing an official press pass. Mangione is accused of shooting and killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on Dec. 4, 2024. Mangione’s murder trial is ongoing.
Lena Weissbrot, also wearing a press pass, said, “His children are better off without him. They need to learn to not be like their dad. And enjoy the blood money, kids.”
“I’m standing on business. Fuck Brian Thompson. I don’t give a flying fuck he died,” Ashley maintained.
“I, I liked it,” interjected Weissbrot.
Ashley later added: “So if you guys are okay with someone like Brian Thompson being around, and that being a part of our society, that says more about you as a person, because you look absolutely monstrous defending someone like that, who participates in social murder.”
“Mass,” said Weissbrot.
“Mass social murder,” Ashley agreed.
Note the rhetorical move here. Being “okay with someone like Brian Thompson” existing is an action, in the same way that assassination is an action. By doing nothing (that is, not murdering someone), you are endorsing Thompson as a person, his career, the healthcare system itself. Ashley puts you in the position of justifying not murdering people.
Weissbrot continued: “He is responsible for more deaths than Osama Bin Laden. And I remember Americans celebrating when Osama Bin Laden was killed. It’s not like we don’t understand heroic violence or like, when violence is good … That’s like as American as America gets.”

Abril Rios, the final member of the trio, chimed in.
“I mean, why do we protect the 2nd Amendment so much? Is it to allow people to shoot up schools or is it for us to protect our democracy? I think it’s to protect our democracy,” said Rios.
“When your democracy is eroded and there’s no other option, like, what are people meant to do?” Rios questioned. (RELATED: Luigi Mangioni Story Gets Stage Musical Spotlight)
The women are close to smiling, seemingly enjoying themselves. They are performing “truth to power” for each other and the cameras. They will likely be richly rewarded for their performance by their in-group (fellow Mangione fans, coffee shop socialists, etc.). Their stated beliefs and policy positions flow downstream from a central consideration: “Will saying these words engender praise or condemnation from those whose praise I seek?”
Think of those dogs who press buttons in a certain order to get treats. All their high-minded declarations about “social murder” and “heroic violence” translate to: “Did I say the right words? Am I a good person? Do you think I’m a good person now?”
So I speculate, anyhow.
Bloodthirst would seem to be rewarded in the circles to which these women evidently belong. The trio runs an Instagram page called “The Mangionistas,” where they post interview clips, updates on Mangione’s case, and other Mangione-related content. It may be women — smiling, small, softly spoken women — who usher us towards an age of blood.
